I am sitting here reading all the guessing about when the dance will begin. And it is very strange that it hasn't happened yet. So I started thinking about what is different now since the last updates. Read an interesting article on cnn that references if the US goes to war with Iraq that there will be a large amount of "cyber warfare" ... the article even mentions google for war info.
Does anyone think this is why google is not updating? I know this is kind of crazy, but is google waiting to see what happens between US and Iraq before updating?
Regarding the war-theory: if Google were to update when war breaks out, they'd have an old index. Best thing to do would be to update now, do some relaxed deep crawling for a couple of days (until let's say 15 March, my hunch for GWB's attack) and then have Freshbot get fresh pages.
"I still think y'all should take a few days off. :) "
...does not seem to be very good communication? There must be some sort of problem this month for things to be late like this so a simple note to us to let us know whats up could not hurt anything could it? Would it really hurt anything if we knew when the update was in advance?
IMHO, when and where Google does an update is largely up to them.
As webmasters, yes we'd all like it sooner rather than later, but the reality is, only Google knows when it will be and they are under no obligation to do an update every month.
If placement in Google is the only factor determining the success or otherwise of a venture, does this not suggest that the venture itself is the item that needs to be looked at closely?
Also placement in Google is not the only factor for the success of my business, but hey, when they run 80% of the searches online they do play a large part for sure.
/hell it's all been said before, ain't it just
