It's not slow right now.
Hasn't it been almost a week since GoogleGuy first said 'I think y'all should take a few days off'? I think he ment 'I think y'all should take a few weeks off'. Looks like the servers crashed, so there won't be any update until the 25th of the month!
I've started using All The Web today, love the Google'ish design and relevancy, plus its got fresher listings than Google!

I believe only the information collected by the Deepcrawler is used during the big update, and the information collected by Freshbot is applied throughout the month several times in between updates.
you have no idea the pain.... thank god I own my mail server...
This will be the last update and then google will switch to ppc.

I'm going to bed. I hope to wake up and discover the update has started.
A Google Search for "Jan 2003" (apologize for the specifics, but the specifics are so general here...) yields a page in the cache dated Jan 11, 2003.
That means, as of today (3/4/03) the Google index is 52 days old, excluding freshbotted sites.
If the dance finishes by the end of tomorrow, based on my logs with a Deepcrawl of Feb 6, the "new" Google index would be some 27 days old 'out of the box'.
There's got to be a better way...

On Sunday, GG said everyone should relax for a few more days. Now, after he has gotten home from work and put the kids to bed, he get's on line to post and...watch. Wednesday, today, is probably the day.

They're currently testing some kind of stealth or cloaking technology [funnydoodle.com], and in order to view this new index, you have to be able to see through anything [funny-city.com].
They promise that the update will get started just as soon as the janitor comes back from vacation in a couple of days with the keys to the head office [ericsfunnypictures.com].
Until that time, they have given up on pushing the red button that doesn't do anything [pixelscapes.com], as it really doesn't do much of anything.
