You didn't say a week! My hair is coming out in clumps, and my wife thinks I'm having an online affair with "some Google guy". :0 C'mon, go ahead & nail that button @ 100,000 posts. We love ya man!
Do you all wait for the update like this out of anticipation, or is there something you can actually do while the update is taking place (besides party).
I mean, Is there actually some active thing you do while the update is going on, and so you are afraid to miss it?
rock on.

A brand education type new site I built recently and linked to from my commercial sites (PR5) shows up as first PR5, then PR7, then Gray Bar.
Wierd, wacky, wild stuff going on. Alas, GoogleGuy alludes to no update for a few days.
(sigh)

Of course there is something we can do during the update. We can check Google News even more often! We can look at our backlinks again and again and again to see if they have changed in www. www2. and www3. We can search using our favorite key words and phrases to see how our site is doing in www. www2. and www3. We can checkthese things over and over and over as they keep changing.
We can also read the messages of celebration or agony that will be posted here. We can read everyone analysis of how they think Google might have changed the algo. Let's see there has to be more. There must be some reason I am checking this forum at 2am just because I woke up and was too curious to see if the dance had started to get back to sleep without checking.
But there is a thrill to the dance. Kind of like after you bet on a horse and you are watching the race. You can't do a thing about the results but what a thrill watching and cheering and hoping. All the thrill of victory and agony and defeat is there but it goes on and on. Like watching one of those big sail boat races it goes on for days.
Gawd, what is a granny with web sites about quilt history doing here? I must be the ultimate senior citizen computer nerd.

He may just think we're all unhealthily obsessing.
Not exactly, but there are two things to consider. The first is the deep crawl happens soon after the update finishes. When the update first hits you can notice good things or problems, and emphasize or fix them quickly so the deep crawl catches them. Second thing, the update takes a few days. If you pay attenetion and competitors don't, you have a couple day edge on them, which isn't huge but it is something.
Also, humans are born with "are we there yet?" in our nature. Future anthropoligists will view these threads as proof of that.
