People really do need to take a few days off if they take GG's comments so seriously.

But, if everyone takes a few days off from update fever, won't Brett's server(s) get all lonely and depressed from the lack of multiple "is it soup yet?" inquiries?

Yep. I'm Nintendo over there. I asked if he got it from Googleguy, and sure enough, he did get it from him!

Have we had a serious guestimate when we thing Google will next update?

Looks like there will be no Feb one, even though my birthday is tomorrow. Would they wait till Madis Gras or the following weekend?

The annoying thing is that I'll be either away on holiday or business over the next week or so and will probably miss all the action.

Now which bright spark will start a service where they send "The dance has started" to your mobile/cell phone? That would be a great idea!

Seems like people are running out of patience around here.
If the update don't start til Monday - I don't know what's gonna happen.

I will not get much sleep and people should stay away from me on monday. I'm not nice without my coffee, and when the coffee does not work? i don't know what to tell you.

Stupid question I suppose, so sorry, but if the dance starts before the update proper then how do you know when the dance has started and how do you follow it's progress?

I don't really follow it. Once it has started, I check my new PR. I check where I'm ranked for my 3 keywords, and go back to work cause my serps or pr don't change later.

I come here often to watch for the update. in fact thats why i'm here now.

I have two choices, i can keep pinging www2.google.com or i can talk about what i need to do next month for google here. And i can work on my site, i've already pinged, and emailed about links, i think i am calm enought to think about what i will need to do?

Just stay tuned right here on this forum. It will be bombarded with messages about the dance and these guys posting will go even more wacko. Meanwhile newbies will freak every time thier position in the serps changes while oldtimers will tell them again and again that it's just the way of the dance. Days later you will be exhausted from staying up late or getting up in the wee hours of the morning to check on how your site or sites are doing. And finally the dance will settle down and evenually end and you will really be able to see how you did this update.

Just a little something to ease the tension folks. You've got to be able to laugh at yourselves. Why...
...because I can.

Dance Update
(To the tune of "Dance Hall Days" by Wang Chung, brought to you by Gefilte and the Hoolinet.)

When they push the red button
This forum explodes again
And if the updates delayed
You all act like your nerves are frayed

In a nervous state
Til the dance update
When they, you, and everyone they knew
Were in need of something better to do

Dance update love

Take some time and take a breath
Cause PR ain't yet caused a death
And don't let yourself come to tears
And play upon your darkest fears

In a nervous state
Til the dance update
When they, you and everyone they knew
Were in need of something better to do

Dance update love
Dance update
Dance update love

If you're up late reading this
You just need to get a grip
It has to come this much is true
Watching it live cannot help you
Cause now there's nothing you can do
Cause now there's nothing you can do
Cause now there's nothing you can do
Cause now there's nothing you can do
Cause now there's nothing you can do

In a nervous state
Til the dance update
When they, you and everyone they knew
Were in need of something better to do

Go here to sign up to be emailed as soon as the Google Dance starts. Plus, you can check your own PR on all Google SEs (www, www2, www3) simultaneously...

Do these Yahoo links mean anything?

Has 4,010,000 resaults. [www2.google.com]
Has 4,060,000 resaults. [google.com]

or it might be from fresh bot updates. One of my own domins just went from two listings to 396 listings, though it had a lot of freshbot visits!

Hmm, that second one's changed again Jesse.. plus, an old rubbishy site of mine is now page rank 10 & at #1 for an incredibly competitive keyphrase. Interesting..

backlinks on yahoo still the same tho @ 642000

Well my site is now showing up under a different category every 5 min... And my new descriptions etc etc have now been entered into the index. I take it that the dance is starting?

That old site, which had been out of the index for a few months & grey-barred, has settled back to PR4 pretty fast. Think you might be right, result of freshbot.

I rarely participate in the infamous update threads mainly as i humbly believe that it happens when it happens. We update our sites numerous times a day 7 days a week and prefer to concentrate on that than the update.

However I do notice one thing.

Could it be perhaps that Google has realised how many websites update at the beginning of each month.

Could it mean therefore that Google could be planning to change its update to reflect the actual month rather than do it at the end of each.

There must be millions of sites that have to change Feb to March etc so would it not make more sense for them to try and grab that and update first week of the month than update the last week of the month and miss all those changes?

Just an idea.

PS and if GoogleGuy reads this could he PLEASE add a link or at the very least make the image on the log out of the adwords link to the Google home page. At the moment the only link is back to adwords - If I Have just logged out why would I want to go back!

This will save me manually typing in google.com. Thank you

No. The next Google update will include only sites that were spidered back in Feb. This next update won't include anything from a site that updated Mar. 1.

i think this is not true for the good old freshbot which injects more actual pages to the results all the time.

Correct, but what the freshbot does is not part of the update.

xmarklar, you might want to remove the url you posted and read the google forum charter [webmasterworld.com]:

No Tools sites or urls please The explosion of Google related free and commercial site tools has opened a flood gate of url dropping to "tools" sites. Therefore, we request you don't post links to "Google tools" (there are dozens if not hundreds of them now as a result of the Google API).
