If we were able to pull down a fresh RDF dump during indexing, there will be a new version of the Google Directory. If not, then not. :) I haven't seen what version we downloaded because I haven't seen the new index yet. ;)

Hey GG, whenever you pop up in these threads someone always asks you "So whens the update GG?"

This time it's my turn:

When's the update GG? ;)

Hi still think it's tomorrow on my birthday as they haven't been nice to me lately and they want to make it up to me.

How effective do people think the coming update tackle spam as lately I have seen some unberlievable examples. Surely there should be a website that highlights poor or downright hidious optimisation?

Hey this is the first topic I have posted that GG has responded to, I feel honored, so whens the update? ;)

Interesting comment from GG - presumably he means the deep-crawling indexing, which, correct me if I'm wrong, happened BEFORE the ODP was able to put out a full-blown RDF dump with cat id's.

In which case, no Google directory update this time round :(

Oh, whatever it takes to get this one page of mine to stop falling in and out of the index...somebody, please...PUSH THE BUTTON!

SEOPutte
The -SJ directory is a old version, and not a new one.

WebWalla - I would interpret GGīs comments regarding the RDF-Dump the same way as you did.

So we have to wait another month before we see a mintyfresh google-directory?

Would it be possible to make the update invisible to us until the second it actually takes place? And by this I mean no more "google-dance". Just wondering if this could be done.

lazerzubb:

Ok, so the present google directory is newer then the -sj directory?
Thought it was the otherway around.

Yes -sj directory is about 1-2 months old, and the other versions is all newer that -sj.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't indexing occur after crawling?

The crawl began late and ended about the time the new DMOZ data was available. If indexing occurs after crawling then the new directory very well may be in the next update.

Another way to interpret indexing may be the actual dance itself.

If it is meant that way, then please push the button for indexing ;-)

I haven't seen what version we downloaded because I haven't seen the new index yet. ;)

From my limited point of view as non-native speaker I think that the new index is already at Google and GG hasn`t seen it yet though it`s somewhere available.

Right or wrong, GoogleGuy?

To Climb Google Rankings - Search Engine Punishes Firms That Try To Game System and Improve Exposure"

GoogleGuy: Oy. Y'all should take a few days off. It will happen when it will happen.

This is a sign.

I've been charting it for the last few months and the update usually starts between 30-36 hours after GoogleGuy tells us to "relax, the update will happen when it happens."

The GoogleGuy Chill-Out Message Technique is foolproof for predicting the update.

:)

I get so excited when GoogleGuy tells me to chill out! Come on, Dance!

can't do that! .. you guys have spidered nearly all our new site this month, and the traffic only has to go up a couple of % for the server to fall over!

GG, there's no chance I could ask you guys to hold off for a couple of weeks till I've got round to re-compiling a slightly smaller apache and buying some more RAM is there?

(Only kidding! Honest ;))

Off Topic but comical...

Mabye we should pull a Letterman and start a "GoogleGuy's Words of Wisdom" thread. :)

On other note I've done the calculations... The planetary alignment isn't quite right, and Pauxatony (sp?!?) Phil has screwed it all up. The update won't be for another 13 minutes, so relax. :)

On the other hand, a fortune cookie I got last night says otherwise.

(Ever feel like you're in a Mel Brooks movie?)
