Silly question (2):

Now I've checked my ranking in www-ex.google.com and www2/3.google.com.

Should I start working on my pages straight away (b4 the deepcrawl) or should I wait that www.google.com settles down and check the results then?

>> Sure they aren't deep crawling?

It was 64.68.82.46, and only requested robots.txt and 1 page (PR4 on a PR5 site with 4000+ pages).

Yes the first results which i saw on ex are now seen on google. Not much shuffling of positions and hence hardly any dance!

Looks like the dance has already hit the main www Google server.

661k Links on www... wow that was fast! :)

I am seeing stable results on the main server for the past 1 hour now. This has to be the quickest update i have ever seen!

Anyone else got Googlebot on their site right now?

64.68.82.45 crawler11.googlebot.com
64.68.82.16 crawler10.googlebot.com

(is this main bot or fresh?)

I thought crawling didnt place during the update? Although I must confess when threads turn even remotely technical, I stop paying attention.... :)

Spanker, this update's results are from the March 10-20th (about) crawl. If you updated your site after that time you'll have to wait until the next update... the crawling for which should start within a few days.

This has got be break a new record! The shortest time ever during an update that the thread was broken in two OVER NIGHT! At least I wasnt the only one on pins and needles - and all for the exact spot we were in before the update... #2 :)

>>Life isn't pink here. Should I start working on my pages straight away (b4 the deepcrawl) or should I wait that www.google.com settles down.

Leo, stay calm and do a little tweaking. You've got some time. I got a brand new site put up practically overnight and caught the crawl last month just in time, and it's all in, including pages added during the month.

Anyone seeing any major changes in backlinks? I have noticed the (very few) guestbook entries one of my clients has either have disappeared completely or are showing much further down the list of backlinks - I assume the lower the listing, the less important the links are considered.

OK, I know the dance is far from finished but this seems very interesting. Most of my websites are showing less backlinks now on www2 & www3 but thankfully without any drop.

If this is the case and google has made some algo changes regarding guestbook entries - well done GG! I remember you posted something regarding sorting this problem last month.

Total Im seeing a slight drop in backlinks for one site - the guestbook entries (ahem....done pre-WW :)) may account for that.

But on another site Im seeing 50% more backlinks, a fluctuating PR (from 5 to 6) and a rise in rankings (site redesign last month).

So Im happy! :)

<but what does www-ex.google.com mean? >

Bignooz... I was hoping that somebody would define it as well, as most of the other datacenters are self-explanatory (Brett and GG are probably taking a well-deserved rest).

I finally found it (on a foreign language site), so if my interpretation is correct, www-ex.google.com stands for Exodus Communications, and it appears to be one of Google's first datacenters setup in 1998.

Yahoo is still showing 692k results for link:www.yahoo.com --- you see 661k results searching on Yahoo?

Would be nice if Yahoo would update their Google database too... ;)

Yahoo do sometimes seem to have the new index before www1 - I have seen this on a few updates.

So, whats the theme of this update? Me thinks, PR is back into reckoning in a major way! PR again rules the roost?

Hello all...
Have a new site that got about 15-20 inward links during the last month including dmoz and a pr8 site. And google has spidered several hundred pages of the site. However site has PR0 throughout update and no backlinks on any of the 8 datacenters. Might things change in the next few days? Could all of the sites linking to me have been missed by deep? Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Kevin
