I guess it could be interesting to pay close attention to the progress of a penalty, but your site looks pretty innocuous. Mine is too, I'm pretty conscientious about linking strategy and invisible links.
If you hear anything that could help, if you figure out anything different, I'd love to know about it, from anyone else as well. Thanks and good luck.
I think after I return from my vacation next month, it'll be time to crack out the credit card and become a full-fledged member here.

And your toolbar will show the PR from that IP, which at this point appears to be the one with the new index.
I am on Win98SE still, my hosts file was called hosts.sam, and was in the C:/Windows/ directory. I added the line and renamed it simply hosts with no extension and restarted. Seems to be working.
You can do a find for your hosts file, though.
If you haven't changed it, then it will occasionally show the new PR, but you have no way of knowing if it is.

It depends on exactly what version of windows you are running.
In the host file you need to add the folowig entry
216.239.33.100 toolbarqueries.google.com
Win 98 you will find your host file in ...
c/windows/host
winxp i think it is....
c/windows/ststem32/drivers/ect/host
It's hard to imagine a penalty that would remove a main index page but leave in 190+ other pages (96% of the whole website, give or take a page.) the www-ex even shows the numerous changes in the remaining pages which have been made to a multitude of the other pages over the last 14 days, albeit none of the new pages that went live in the past 5-7 days.
I went ahead and wrote to the webmaster@google.com earlier, as that was the addy GG had posted up.
I'm not panicky, just confuzzled. After all, the remaining interior pages show up fairly well for the terms most use to find our little info site. I've never had the index page go missing on me before.
a few weeks back, when I did a redirect so index.html would come up index.htm, I dinna dream that simple 301 was shorthand for index.hey-the-main-link to become
index.hey-tis-missing
Cheers, luck and best wishes to all
I do think it was different then, though, I think all of our incoming links just stopped counting. I remember thinking that even though I was hosed, at least I knew how the penalty worked. They just stop counting any incoming links for you and you go away. This time the incoming links still show.
I wrote to search-quality about both of our sites, we'll see. And obviously things could change anyway.
