I've noticed a stop on the freshbot in the last 24 hours but I bet we don't get an update - typical as I have loads new content!

I think the next big question is whether or not Google will look towards an update fortnightly in order to keep ahead of the competition! ;)

you know somebody should actually call them and say "what the hell is going on"! Or maybe somebody should stakeout the Google offices and follow one of the employees when they leave then interogate them! I obviously can't because I'm in the UK anybody in the US want to try this....it might work!

You could always phone them yourself just don't mention your URL, it could be the fastest ban in history

GoogleGuy said it would be a few days. That still holds true.

Ruggles,

Where is the thread where GG said a few more days?

This isn't the update I'm looking for. I can go about my business. Move along! Move along!

Now why did that weird thought come into my head? Very odd...

From past experience, updates have been up to six weeks apart.

The last crawl started later than usual, almost a week after the update.

Google have no scheduled update cycle. We have no reason to expect or demand an update at any time.

The only reason for anyone to think that it's late would be that their personal prediction was wrong.

There are quite a few new posters. Welcome to you all; here are some important threads to read:
How to tell if a Google Update has started [webmasterworld.com]
Google Update FAQ [webmasterworld.com]
Google Update History [webmasterworld.com]

Subliminal message: This isn't the update you're looking for. You can go about your business. Move along! Move along! :-)

That's very impressive ciml. Your subliminal message has an effect on posts already made. Well done! ;)

Were there not major problems on January 24th? Could Google simple be making sure they don't lose too many sites that may have had problems on Jan 24th.

We now stand at 39 days.

Hmmm maybe G is going all biblical on us. Perhaps it intends to leave us in the wilderness for 40 days and 40 nights...

Hi guyz,

On average how many times in a given month should the googlebot (fresh crawl) visit a site?

I have read that it can depend on PR and visits etc. My site has a PR of 5!

KR,

weird. turns out I too have been checking link: http etc etc with a space in between .. up until just now I've been getting 642k everywhere, like everyone else. Only just now have I started getting 50k ish, and the figure's different for www1 and www2. a page that's been solid PR4 since the start of the thread has just gone grey-bar too. wonder if its significant

OK here's the deal: The dance will begin 8 days out of schedule. If it was to start at Feb 28th it will start coming Saturday or Sunday at the latest. What happened during the Feb deep crawl was that for some reason the deep crawl failed to index a large amount of pages and 8 days later there was a new extensive deep crawl. My logs for several of my sites show that they were deep crawled on 6 Feb and then again on 14th Feb. For one of the sites only two pages were deep crawled on the 4th and more than the remaining hundred on the 14th. We can assume that G needs about three weeks to tidy up the new index and register all the backlinks and calculate the new PRs. So my bet is that this weekend we'll all, at last, be dancing:)

GG, if I have hit bull's eye please aknowledge!

ack, maybe I'm just going squinty eyed. I'm sure that's the same bookmark that's been giving me 642k though. forming the link: search properly still giving 642k though, everywhere

Heck if I wanted to have a favorite search engine that doesn't update, it would be AltaVista, not Google. Unbelievable. Has anyone called the 'Plex to see if they're even home?

The only problem with Google being late, is that they have to "catch up" later.

If the update was late enough in the month, they might end up skipping it.

Think about it - what if the update is on the 15th? Would they bother having another one two weeks later, or just wait until the next month, and do it a bit earlier in the month than usual.

I DON'T 'A THINK'A SO!

Which is why I assume it should happen before the 10th :)

Otherwise they throw a metaphorical spanner in the hypothetical works.

Hi, "my Google Dance Machine" just registered a change on www for my site's backlinks. The other 3 are still unchanged. Until just now, all four www's matched exactly. Does anyone else see anything happening yet?

xerxes, I don't see a change on backlink numbers.

galaga, 642k is the number of backlinks shown when searching link:www.yahoo.com

When it changes, the update has started.

ciml, nice to see you posting here. If you have so much time you might prob want to press the close-this-thread-button (left hand of "the other button").

BTW: where can i report spam here at WebmasterWorld? there's one special thread (can't post the url per TOS) that finds its way to #1 within the google news forum again and again. Damn, it should get banned!
