reseller, Jagger3 ended up having less emphasis on canonicals. I plan to make that a theme in my feedback to people at work though.

AlexK, that's a different domain. But the point is very well taken. You've found a pretty obscure query (~295 results) that the keyword stuffing spammers like to target. I'll check this out in more detail.

I belive J3 is off from public view.
And when J3 is ready, it will come back.
Dc 7 is ok but the 9 looks more clean.

This forum is the best example of viral marketing that I know. Make everyone jittery and pretent to have connections to the people who have the answer ... It's great!

Lost around 50% - would be worse if I hadn't worked so hard on damage limitation (building new sites during the update thinking some of them must survive).

It's sad to see my WH site gone and competitors taking over with their subdomain tricks. It's unfair.

When I see spam ranking well I don't do spam reports but see what they do and try to beat them. But this is not working any more so I must 'go tell ma'.

JudgeJeffries, same thing happened with me. I think it's just something different in the algos. I still have my main keywords(also used in my anchor text), to use your example, 'old widgets', but lost everything like 'old widgets with stripes', 'collectable old widgets'... along with 45% of G traffic.

Can anyone explain what is "Supplemental Result"?

Which seems to suggest changed values on anchor text. Anyone else?

What search results are we talking about here? Which search engine? When did you search? What URL did you use? Did you try in brackets? Who? What? Where? How?

So many questions!1

It is spiritual somehow: We're all waiting for Jagger 3 to return...

I'm taking one day off. Maybe it's the best way to survive Jagger.

Wake me up when it's over. Good luck to everyone.

Heres something to smile about after the ongoing carnage for so many sites.

Nice!

Hmmm.....

My site was doing ok through all of this until yesterday - not sure what to do now. I have a few sites but every one is either filtered/penalized for some unknown reason or sandboxed. Nothing black hat, I don't even know how to do black hat. I guess I need to find someone who needs to have some work outsourced to make a little money now. Have no idea if or when any of my sites will make any reasonable amount of money again.

Yapp yesterday the catastrophy happened .. nuked into oblivion. I have reverted all canonical changes now. As MC is posting irrelevant stuff in his blog it seems this thing is over for him.

My listings are good:
I'm an SEO! I'm a GENIUS. Listen to me, as my words are the wisdom of the ages.

My listings are poor:
Google is irresponsible to their user base. There should be government investigations. I hear the future is all Yahoo anyway.

Ankhenaton - what do you mean by that you reverted all canonical changes? You got rid of your 301's? Or google is counting both you www and non www?

Ankhenaton

3:56 pm on Nov 8, 2005 (gmt 0)

I found bs like this linking too us, unasked obviously

195. www.101searchengine.com/namechanged_10.htm PR 2 66.240.194.165
196. www.101register.biz/namechanged_10.htm PR 0
66.240.194.170
197. www.101domainname.biz/namechanged_10.htm PR 0
66.240.194.173
198. www.101topranking.com/namechanged_9.htm PR 3

I was worried that unasked for rubbish linking could affect you.

My canonical changes (non-www/www) have not reverted but the previously url only pages which had been corrected have reverted again.

I do have to wonder about inbound links - we have gambling sites linking to us (unasked for!) and our problems started when these started to appear.
I can't even find the link on their site, let alone ask them to remove it.

I'm not having any canonical problems as far as I know, but pages I got rid of months ago with 410's are still showing up as supplementals with the site: command.

<I've just found a condom factory in Montana gets listed number one for my trademarked company name>

Just a follow up on this one ... The same company gets nowhere when searching for the services that it actually offers ... Great ;-)

I have bunch of those types of links too - I don't know if they can hurt a site either.

Miop:
these referers you see could be log spam [webmasterworld.com] also.

I'm not sure if there is a nexus between that and your problems. Maybe there are other issues causing probs. (There are a lot causes).

My site which was buried long back, showing my site on DC 66.102.9.104 and noticed that showing only url with no title and description in SERPs on 120th position for one particular keyword.

I think I have to wait couple of days to settle down things. What you guys suggest?

I guess the good sites (or cleaned up) that have completely dropped out should* be back within a month from the finish? (Well that’s what happened in the last update to one of my sites)

Ankhenaton

I had different PR on example.com and www.example.com due to apache entry ServerAlias so I set up an extra webserver 301ing via regex to www.example.com. That's what I reverted. Why should I waste memory if google is bs about ..

My site was doing ok through all of this until yesterday - not sure what to do now.

Trisha, The site that was the top site for years when searching for my main keyword is now gone. It showed as URL only for a while but no longer shows at all on most data centers. It's got to be a glitch so I'm sure it will be back and hopefully yours will return too.

This site has been around since 1994 but it's always been up to date with new additions all the time. But the HTML looks like 1994. No ads at all. I can't imagine why it went down.

Meanwhile I can enjoy being 4th for the moment anyway. :) But I really don't want to get there that way, a good site missing.

(added) it's back to 3rd for the moment. Things aren't settled yet.

All big companies have downtime and error pages, like my broadband provider. It's time Google has something like this too.

Meanwhile we are informed about an Easter Egg in a movie by Matt Cutts :\.

Hi folks:) I suppose u didn"t pay attention to my previous post because of my poor English. I was wondering -what's up at Russian google com. Now I can tell u that new serps arn't new for me -I have seen them few days ago at google com.

Ankhenaton - I don't know if that is a good idea or not, I think google eventually does see the 301 and fix things - but what do I know google doesn't like my sites either!

annej - I hope both our sites come back! Maybe it is just a glitch, but I've been in a panic since yesterday.

join the club Trisha ;0( all we can hope is once this settles they do the usual tweaking and pull our sites back, this has happened once to me - but its very stressful - 6 years work down the pan

FWIW - there is ZERO movement for the last couple of hours across all McDar DCs when searching for 7 of our most relevant terms.

No movement whatsoever.

For us - this could not be better news. For whatever reason, we came back to life with J1 and just kept moving up a J progressed.
