AlexK, that's a different domain. But the point is very well taken. You've found a pretty obscure query (~295 results) that the keyword stuffing spammers like to target. I'll check this out in more detail.

Now, like it or not, as a measure of quality, the tests were sound. The sample size was reasonable. The results conclusive. Google was vastly inferior to MSN and Yahoo on this measure. However, if your tests were done in the last six weeks, you'll have to re-do them.
Google listings have been in terrible flux during that time, and most (not all) here will agree that the changes have not always been for the better.
Personally, I have seen some terrible results in the few weeks.
So, your ratings "sweep", like in radio/TV/print, depends on when you do it.
I would be interested in seeing what your experiences are over (a) a wide range of DCs, and (b) a weekly basis. Only then can we tell what the actual end-user experience will be.

Mozilla Googlebot hit hardish yesterday.
>>>Comments?
Conspiracry theory - Google are working on bringing sites down by hitting sites at stupid rates with Mozilla Googlebot ;)
Other comments - I would expect a proper crawl when all is settled - is your site settled/stable - perhaps once a site becomes more stable Gbot activity will increase.
Had crawling problems before this update?
It is switching between the 2.
I am however noticing a loss of "accuracy" in the SERPS though.
No, I don't mean my site is not showing so the SERPS are crap either.
I mean accuracy in the sense that deeper more relevant pages for obscure searches are not returned.
I am sure I am not the only one to notice this.
Do we think that this is a new Google now or that they will get around to refining the results to reinclude all those lesser more specific pages?
Still a way to go I guess.
I think/hope the allinanchors have a bit more to play as yet. EG. Seeing sites very highly rated for some allinanchors but nowhere in the normal results. (and of course I have a site that is ranking better in allinanchors too ;))

Is this a sign that may be it is on the way out of the sandbox?
I also got a reply from Google regarding one of the spam reports I sent - the most egregious one, where someone was serving a text leaderboard floating down the page right over my content. I see that the offenders site is still up, but that behaviour is gone and I don't see any ads on his site.
We also saw a lot of action from both the googlebot and the media bot, and I have to think this is beacause things have settled down on the search algo end.
So we survived Jagger - for now. As I have said before (I don't post a lot so most of you probably are not familiar) we have been on line with our main URL since October 1995, and really have never experienced a drop like this at anytime from any one engine. Currently we have our own issues with Yahoo! - but even when we ranked #1 with them for the same terms we do with Google, they only ever sent us 1/10 of the traffic. We are a totally white hat site and have never traded a link with anyone. Luckily we had some unique content from the get go and we still have (depeneding on where you look) several thousand sites that link to us. I guess in the long run those factors - back links, age, URL and the content is why we do so well in our niche.
Glad some of you are doing ok.
We are losing big time and have done nothing wrong, this is a case of, you can't have an omelettee without breaking eggs.
We have gone from page1 to page 14 for our main keywords, we have no dupe content, no spammy pages or nothing.
So what do we do and has it finished already?
Bek.
We had a site that was ranking on 11th page yesterday, ranking in the 2nd page now. Another site that was ranking on 17th page, now ranking on 18th. I wouldn't find much difference between the 2 sites and the market they are in. I am sure things will improve as the update moves forward, and here is hoping best of lucks to you.
Back to the begining :(
Excuse my language but i´m not english.

I can't stand self promoting academics, shoot me...
But you don't have a clue who I am, or which institute I work for! So how can I be promoting self? Obviously (at least to a normal person) I am not. I wrongly felt that this was a suitable place to share search engine research data.
repeats of the same off-topic comments...
And there was I thinking that application of sampling theory on the DCs you are mentioning above (7 and 9) was ON topic. How silly of me.
For Reseller: we covered a vast array of topics. To avoid academic research bias, I sectorized the group to cover different search arenas: research, hobbies, commercial, and so forth. Also note that these guys are not school kids.
.
The research was objective and focused [on the quality site exclusion problem], but there seems to be too many entrenched positions here to take it at face value. Instead there is a surprising and growing amount of vitriol and hostility.
I was also surprised that the Google rep completely blanked the topic. Given that he spends so much time fishing for 'spam' reports, I would have thought that details of an independent study on their new index might have merited at least a passing interest. This non-reaction is also information of a sort though, isn't it.
.
I find this all disappointing, partly because I was to spend this afternoon documenting the exercise, and digging deeper with the group with the intention of posting the resultant documentation here.
I'll certainly skip the latter part of that now (the posting), so as to allow the blinkered to continue chasing their tails without interruption. This therefore constitutes my last post here. All together now: Hooray! Good riddance! Google rocks!
Have fun guys and best of look to you all (well: most of you!).
One person like me!
I'm in the same situation
Are you spanish too?
Another!
Welcome to the club..
Unfortunately some people are not prepared to listen to other peoples thoughts or opinions.
I think you are bang on target with doing research that shows that sites are missing (I dont think there is enough evidence that it is due to anti-spam as I said before)
A much bigger report that is published to a wide audience is probably what is needed for people to realize how many sites are missing due to Google problems.
Hopefully (fingers crossed) that will never be needed, this update is still progressing.
