Belgian, you said:
<<when most pages from a site are dropped in WWW2 -only 2 of about 60 remain in the index - at this stage of the dance, can they still show up in the next few hours/days?>>
Google is famous for indexing pages as long as there is some kind of content on them and they have inbound links to them. If some of them got dropped, don't sweat it. Things get very weird at this stage of the game, and this is no time to break out in cold sweats. There is an excellent chance they will be back within several days.
GoogleGuy, this update's delay was all about your being unsure which button to push, right? So, for November, we ought not have that problem again, right? ;) It's the RED one. Put a sticky note on the office fridge.
check out Googleguy's past [google.com] and judge then. There is a lot to learn between the well intended lines in these forums..
agree 100%.
my message is out, the pros will understand.
uh guns? nope. a peaceful soul is behind these lines.
GoogleGuy, your engineers must be horrified at the though of everyone concentrating on link analysis? Or should we be looking at content still? :) :) :)

I still have lots of confidence in google, that's not the problem.
Before this update, i was between #1 and #10 for plenty of my pages. I think i had good content-rich pages.
A few of my pages however didn't do well at all, so i tried to work on my backlinks.
Before this update, i had 4 backlinks , now in WWW2 i have 14.
Yesterday, i made another chance to the site. It's a site that uses frames so in the noframes section of the homepage, i added links so the site could be indexed properly by frames-unabled crawlers.
I don't think i did any spammy thing by adding these links yesterday.
During the dance, i never noticed such a major differences before so that's why i'm really worried now.
How fast can they remove a spammer?
Threre could be a answer at the google knowledge base.
- proofed: they remove it very quick (hours) if its either blatant / really obvious / really bad in users eyes
- proofed: they remove it after the next update if it can be matched by machine / algo
- proofed: it takes very loooooong if the spam's done "intelligently"
Brett, if you like i could write a faq's answer for this.
Thanks ... and cheers :)
First thing that's interesting to me this time is that almost nothing in my positions has changed. This seems weird. i am usually in the top 10 for my preferred search terms and i still am (just so you know i'n not whining), but even those positions for some of my words where i was #138 and #64, for instance, are precisely the same. It's hard to believe this could be. Something is fishy. Is the dance really done?
Second, i've noticed another weird thing with one of my search terms. When i drop from #1 i ALWAYS drop to #6. That's it. #1 or #6. How can this be? It's been going on for quite a few months.
Isn't it redundant to have Google Directory results come up in the SERPS? Why would I want to click on that link and go through those results looking for my relevant content there when if I wanted to use the directory, I could just click on directory results at top?
I've just checked and I have a DMOZ.ORG back link for the one site I've checked.
Last month I noticed that a directory had changed its PR substantially - even though the site had not changed layout. The higher pages were the same but as you got lower down the pages had gone from PR3/PR2 to PR1. Has a similar thing happened to DMOZ? The lower pages are no longer PR4 and so don't show up in back links?
Anyway... chill with the backlinks..dmoz, yahoo and such are missing.. all mine are still missing..theirs noway they would be dropped unless google screwed up... those links are solid so they will appear... if not then I seriously would like answers..
Point of the story..Chilllllllllll... relax... in a couple of days the results will show...then we will have a ton more of people like airforce I suspect :)
but... the pages linking to me do show backlinks? i don't like this.
Help me be 1, are your backlinks showing yet?
(sorry helpmebe, must be the update weirdness happenin to me)

<edit> ikbenhet1, no fair man.. you just changed your post from asking me if I saw my backlinks... now I sound like a dumbass for answering you
Normally I see only 2 versions of the index. The old one (www) and the new one (www2 & www3)..
This time however there are 3 versions for me.
1 = the old one (I'm ranked number 5 or 6)
2 = my site is ranking number 1 for a term I REALLY want
3 = my site is basically nowhere (its in the index but ranked poorly)
HELP HELP
I'm hoping that the number 2 option will turn out to be the new index.
I actually kinda like hearing from someone that's more PO'd than me.
Just my two cents...
The long and winding road that leads to Google's top
Has somehow disappeared
I've lost that road before
It always leads me here
Back to Webmaster World
The wild and windy nights the GG dance washed away,
Has left a pool of tears crying for the day.
Why leave me standing here, let me know the way
Many times I've been unknown
And many times I've cried
Anyway you'll never know
The many ways I've tried, but
Page rank leads me back to the long and winding road
It left me standing here, in this long long thread to go
Don't leave me waiting here, lead me to your top
Da, da, da, da --
