Definately getting different results on backward links for yahoo. www showing 657k and www2 and www3 showing 654k. Results for CNN are also different. Looks like the real deal.

helpmebe1:

I was referring to the new spam trick of putting hundreds of kw jammed hidden text into the footer of your pages.

A common footer that has standard navigation elements should be fine.

Sometimes it seems like there are no tricks, no link farms to build, just a good site with titles, headers, link text, good body copy, a few directory placements and that's it.

Once in a while there is an update like the one in September, ya fall off the map for a month or two, but just keep going, build the site out, work on improving the copy for conversions not for the algo tweak of the month and rankings bounce back.

For moderate and low competitive words that generate higher conversion rates there's no need to get all stressed about it unless its some tom-foolery that got ya there in the first place.

<<See how you are doing on FAST, they are not geared as much to the "research" market. Google is mainly for scientists and really smart people. Most shoppers will probably use FAST in the near future.>>

Oh I dunno. I think people (dumb ones, average ones, smart ones and even the really smart ones) like Google because of its speed, comprehensive database and accuracy. For shopping, research or whatever. I use it for everything. ;)

InetMarketer, to start out with: it's very rare for Google to penalize an IP block. That's because innocent people may be hosting on that block, and because the spammers will often move to a new block. So unless you were the only good site on a block of thousands of spammy porn sites, I wouldn't worry about it.

The next thing is to be patient, because the update always takes a little while and sometimes things are in flux. Also, if you can put your site in your profile, some people might be able to offer better advice. ;)

ken72, it normally takes a few days for everything to settle down. When you see consistent results on all the servers for a day or two, things are probably finished.

Hope this helps,
GoogleGuy

I put the address in the profile, but it wouldn't show, so I set it as the interest and occupation also with dot com instead of .com, thank you for your help everyone.

Rant over. Can we begin the - what now? thread already please?

Hi 2_much,

Why do you think you are slammed? Did you try to "optimise" for the new algo? Do you still have spam sites with less inbound links before yours?

I'm still seeing www (from the US) different than www2 and www3 but I'm getting hits from AP (.sg and .jp) people who are seeing the new results on www.

According to PRcheker program some of my sites are gonna go down for some keywords but they's gonna go higher for the rest...

When I add the results to each other it gives pretty much the same number as before...

Is that possible that the final results still change for the next two of three days?

What is the meaning of the numbers in PRChecker results? Do they mean the position of the site in the first page of google results?

Hard to figure Google out - last update my site virtually disappeared for four or five days, putting me in a panic. But right at the end of the update it reappeared at number 5, up from number six. This update it is showing at number 1 in all three w's - hope it lasts.

ikbenhet1,

I'm talking about the PRChecker [or Google dance monitor thingie], it's a pretty cool application that gives you your site's ranking with regards to the keywords you specify...

For example: you give [yoursite.com...] and also a set of keywords in seperate lines to it (i usually keep the number of keywords less than 10) and it returns you the ranking in www, www2 and www3. (I'm not certain what those numbers are but I think they're very much related to the position of the site in the result page if it's in the first page). If your site is not among the first 100 results, it doesn't show you any numbers. It's very useful to monitor the progress of the site during the dance...

InetMarketer, you've got quite a few keywords stuffed in alt tags? And it kinda looks like you went on a guestbook signing binge? And you've got over a 100 links on that domain to an SEO that talks about the pharmacy template sites that it creates? I'm not hopeful right now, I have to admit.

IId like to thank GoogleGuy for playing a really active part in the google update thread for the first time ever! Risky I guess, but its highly useful!

And,, um.. yes thanks to John316 for injecting so much humour into this thread...

Thank you for checking it our for me GoogleGuy. I assure you that the site you are looking at has 0 duplicates anywhere in the world. I paid for it to be built specifically for me.

I could only find one alt tag on the whole site. I am looking at the home page, are you looking at the homepage also, or another page?

Happy to help, chiyo. There are always a few questions that I can chime in on.

InetMarketer, I'm looking at a page that starts with an underscore. One of the images is called buy-drug1-drug2-drug3-drug4-drug5-online.jpg, except with real drug names.

I'm off to a haunted house (Happy Halloween, everyone!), but I'll stop by in a few hours and check for other questions.

I am looking for it big time, all the pages start with a _. Can you stickymail me so I know where it is? Is that why the site went to PR0?

P.S. Have fun at the haunted house!

GG you seem to be very active tonight :)
Maybe you could let me know why so many sites dropped backlinks? Why pages that were fresh tagged a few days ago are gone and replaced by outdated pages? Why certain very obvious keyphrases are bringing up por# domains and other completely irrelevant sites? I think the relavancy of the serps are going down the tubes by placing too much emphasis on backlinks ;)

I don't mean to sound so negative but just wondered why this may be happening besides the obvious weight on backlinks.
