Google now shows on their main index the new update and new algo.

I thought Google where going to add more back links but they no.

The number of backlinks on one of my sites have dropped by 50%

I hope this posting is acceptable

No no no no no this is NOT just another algo tweak, this is a monumental cock-up which Google is struggling with. I'll post my full analysis in the "serious" thread but this is all going horribly wrong, isn't it?

The refrain I keep reading, regarding Google not caring about Webmasters (at least those who spend all their time optimizing sites), is logical almost beyond question IMHO. It is precisely Webmasters working to "optimize sites" that gives Google trouble by interfering with the "natural" way sites would have been indexed (ever since that clever chap figured out to put rude words in presidential anchor text).

And of course GG has no way of knowing who in here crosses spam lines and who doesn't, but he knows SOME do...and as charming and at times helpful as he is, you can bet those Webmasters are not people whose opinions he values (except to know what they are thinking).

As is so often true on the Web, Google and the Webmaster community are *both friends and enemies* - but either way, co-dependent upon one and other.

Ultimately, what may come back to bite G in the a** is:
1) Webmasters, as early indicators - and more importantly early adapters - do have opinions that filter out onto the Web and influence others...
2) Some Webmasters even pay to have Google on their sites.

Hmmmm, now what was that monthly charge that FAST was offering recently... ;-)

Dynamoo,

Could not agree more.

I think we put Google on such a technological pedastal that people are weary of saying that they may, indeed, be having major problems with the data from the last crawl.

We cannot expect GoogleGuy to come in and say this outright as it really is not his place to do so- rather to say everything is just grand. He will defend the intergrity of the index to no end because it is an argument that cannot be disproven. When it comes to why they have chosen to use February data, we hear nothing more than "over time we will add new links".

Using 3 month old data just doesn't seem like something Google would opt for so I have a hunch they are having some issues. Why don't they just keep the old index up for major partners? I have no idea...

I would think that ‘GoogleGuy’s Job function is public relations, He is here to stop the “sky is falling” syndrome and offer as much help as Google will allow him to. He is a very personable individual with a great sense of humor. I for one enjoy having him around.

He is not going to come in and say yep Google is FUBAR. Sorry guys better luck next month! I don’t believe that is in his Job description.

I do believe that there is
A. A huge problem at Google at the moment.

Well if Microsoft bought Google that would explain the crappy algorithm.

i just have to say that this entire thread is pure comedy.

Finally, something in this thread I agree with.

And people wonder why "everything" seems to be happening slowly at Google this month, they are too busy laughing at this thread. Googleguy said it himself, he hasn't been around here posting because nothing new has happened or changed since the day this all started. Yet, this thread is somehow in part 8. If I was Google, I'd work as slow as possible to keep the entertainment going. I used to try to keep up with this thread for informational purpose, but that stopped long ago. Now it is strictly for laughs.

Googleguy: Nothing has happened yet.
Insane Webmasters: Wow, so much has happened!
Sane Webmasters: Nope guys, nothing new here. Like Googleguy said, it will be a slow process. They still have to add backlinks and spam filters and things like that, so it could take some time.
Insane Webmasters: Where are my backlinks! Google sucks! These results are terrible! So much spam!
Googleguy: We should be gradually adding backlinks and spam filters over time.
Insane Webmasters: This update is crazy! I am missing half my backlinks! What the hell!
Sane Webmasters: (quote) Googleguy's Post (/quote)
Insane Webmasters: The update is already on www, Yahoo, AOL and it's also now showing up on Altavista and AllTheWeb and my backlinks are gone forever and don't seem to ever be coming back! My rankings are all down! Google sucks!
Googleguy: Just relax guys. Backlinks will be added later on. First the new index will spread to more datacenters then spam filters and backlinks and everything else that you are worrying about now will start to come back and get better.
Insane Webmasters: This sucks! Where is Googleguy? He is never around to tell us webmasters what is going on! That's it, time to use Wisenut!
Brett: Ahh, my bandwidth!

I don't mean to make fun of or offend anyone. This is just how I see this WHOLE thread, all 7 million posts of it. I'm just trying to bring back some sanity and calmness.

ty wackmaster. been lurking for a couple of months. figured it was time to pipe-in.

seems to me that a) too many people seem to be devoting too much of their marketing strategy to free google serps (something that they ultimately don't control), and b) too many people are getting too worked up before anything settles.

i'm not saying this in a judgemental tone, but more of an evaluative tone.

i would imagine that i compete with many of you for free serps in the affiliate world, but even kick ass ranking won't bring you 6 figs/mo., especially if all you're after is google.

<shrug>

/me goes back to lurker mode.

You are still sane ircgeeks? Lucky for you. I've FINALLY figured out Google's strategy.

"Those whom the gods would destroy they first make mad."
Euripides

Google is now the chief god of Internet search. From reading around here you can determine who Google has decided to destroy. ;)

Perfection, Critter, Kirby with whom I respect,

Leave this thread if you do not like what is being talked about. Don't drop in with sweeping generalizations and accusations.

Hollywood, AOL has infact switched back.

As far as why we are talking about this, is because we have 30+% of the SE market showing questionable results. GG's answers to this point, have been inadequate in terms of addressing why incomplete results wents live. Important, yea, I'd say.

We "insane Webmaster" or insane business owners, lets just put our tale in between our legs, cause we are wet behind the ears, and obviously don't get it.

- yea, and that's why we have so much at stake.

I think I'm the only one who is actually happy with this update. Looking forward to seeing it propagate to www.

me/dux and runs!

P.S. I had great rankings in Feb and made a minor error (not spam just a stupid redirect move) in March that totally messed me up...so Feb was a perfect choice of db to go with for me!

GoogleGuy has at least been hinting -sj is the one to watch. and that there is stil, as of this morning anyway, cleansing/updating to do on it before they update the live index, which is pretty obvious to see anyway.

so, my money stays on -sj and that there is a ways to go yet. that they are still processing a ton of information.

googleguy. don't let me down. got drunk last night and put the pinkslip on it. of course it wasn't my pinkslip (hehe)...

Im still trying to figure out if this is the Google forum (webmaster message boards) or a bunch of late night "trekies" being driven to drink due to this algo change.

I'm still calm - nothing has settled to the general public....

Additionally, I think for every post that does not help another webmaster or ask a question with sense should require a 5 cent donation to Brett in which he will become a very rich man! Lets relax and listen to the senior members such as GG and many others.
