I like it GG, over 2000 posts about the 'update' and people are still asking the same questions.........which you answered about 7 days ago!
For those those that may have missed this in another thread [webmasterworld.com]:GoogleGuy: I'm expecting SJ results to show up at other data centers, then gradually over time we're going to pull in newer spam filters, backlinks, etc.
Critter: Is all the data from the last deepcrawl in -sj?
GoogleGuy: Um, I doubt it's all in there right now, Critter. I would expect more pages to be pulled in over time.
Dolemite: I'm taking it to mean that newer backlinks will eventually be factored in, so SERPs will change
GoogleGuy: You bet. Dolemite, I think there are still backlinks to be truly added in over time. My hunch is that as that happens, SERPs will change as a result.
albert: Is it possible to give us some rough time line?
GoogleGuy: albert, I just can't to commit to any future dates. If you think about the sheer magnitude of data to be processed, that's a lot of data--easily several terabytes. That's not the sort of thing you process in a day or two. But we'll be going through it as quickly as we can.
I have only taken selected quotes above, see the whole thread [webmasterworld.com] for the full dialog. From this exchange, it seems safe to make the follow assumptions (IMO):
1. -sj does does not contain the complete results from the deep crawl.
2. Pages from the deep crawl will be added to the index in coming days.
3. As pages are added, backlinks will be added.
4. (At least some) SPAM filters have not been applied to the index yet. Thus -sj is currently more spammy than the final index.
5. Given the preceding 4 assumptions, the SERPs of the final index could be drastically different from what we currently see on -sj (IMO).
Good Summary - I guess that as GoogleGuy has not been saying much else then he does not have much to add to the conversations or to his previous points.
Dont think that GG would lie - He may have to withhold information.
"-sj results are now on www"
"-fi results are now on www"
"Google is now using -sj results for www"
"no, www looks the same to me"
"no change here"
And it goes back and forth...
... trying to report what Google is doing based on the results they see in their browser at that particular time.
Im willing to bet that Google's traffic direction system is much more advanced than DNS alone. And I dont think anybody at Google is flipping a switch that sends all www traffic to -sj or any other data center.
Google takes alot of pride in how fast they can deliver a large set of results. Given that, Google is most likely using an advanced content switching system that directs your traffic to the data center experiencing the least load at that particular instant you execute your search, combined with other georaphical parameters. Network switching equipment is so advanced these days that your traffic can be completely redirected based on what is in your destination URL. I wouldnt be surprised if Google switches your traffic to different data centers based on your query as well.
While -fi results appars on aol.com
The -fi results themselves changes very much last 2 hours for my search terms, so now they are different from what aol.com shows :)
And these updated -fi results seems to include more backlinks and newer information ... so google do what they say - they slowly add new data.
moderators:
perhaps, under the circumstances, you should take the swerve post from page 11 of this topic, and post it in a locked topic as "googleguy update information" so it doesn't get lost again.
it would probably cut down alot of uncessary posts for the time being.
just a thought... we had searched on recent posts in GG's profile more than a few times, and still missed this series of exchanges from GG.
When will the update start?
The answer is about a week ago [webmasterworld.com] :)
rfdgxm1: GG, I currently am seeing www2 and www3 pointing at www-sj.google.com. Would you call that the "official" beginning of the Google dance?GoogleGuy: Sounds like a good indicator to me.
You seem to be basing your opinion of whether the dance has started on (deepbot and perhaps other) experiences from previous updates. One thing we can all agree on, is that recent Google activity has been anything but typical. Future updates could happen radically different than in the past (or they could return to "normal"). Or perhaps you are right, Freshbot may take over as the dominant (or only) source of new data going forward (or maybe not). The point is that something is different about this one, and it remains to be seen whether it will become the new normal or whether it is just a one-time algo+technology adjustment. Either way, GoogleGuy is not in a position to say...if in fact, he knows.
