Other "Google Partner" sites that are "Enhanced" or "powered" by Google are now showing FI results, such as Compuserve.
I'll bet that these big customers of Google have a service level agreement in place where Google promises to have new data delivered every month. Since Google is behind on their usual update schedule they are sending these sites to FI and SJ to keep up with the terms outlined in the SLA.?
just a guess :)

I can tell you now that when my Grandma goes to Google or Yahoo and searches for "sewing machines" she doesnt say ... "ah these SERPS are crap! Google blows!"
It would be very arrogant of Google to assume that the average Joe isn't going to notice crappy results, and that only webmasters will. Google needs to stop this nonsense and get back to doing what they used to do so well.

If I were Google, I would pay a late fee penalty before I released FI to a customer.
IRRATIONAL AND UNPROFESSIONAL is the only thing I can say. STOP paying so much attention to aquisitions and ad serving G if you cannot deal with Search, and start paying more attention to your SERPS and the people's interest who helped make G what it is. Because this is flat out wrong.
I can see the link with Ibiza though (Perhaps they got themed together)
It seems reasonable that a website owner would want some consistency in their results. Trying the free route is not reliable. We are fortuante to have AdWords in all our important terms so whatever happens we will survive.
Some of our terms in the free listings have fallen while others have remained steady. What really bothers me is that we arranged for some quality backlinks that have not yet been factored in.
Google is trying to promote Ad-word sales with crap serp results.
Ok, I think we are starting to figure out this new ALGO.
Heres how it works:
Tweak the ALGO just enough to piss off the webmaster into buying AdWords but not so much that Joe Blow surfer gets too upset.
Most Joe Blow surfers think AdWords are just another SERP.
Very clever on Google's part.

Goalposts need to be moved otherwise it will get to predictable...
I congratulate you on being lucrative enough to pay for Add words. Thanks to you Google will Survive and be able to continue offering crap SERP’s.
The sad part is allot of website’s that are information based and not E-commerce pages can’t afford to shell out .20 a click.
I think praising add words is the exact opposite of what will help this industry. With your theory the internet will be nothing more than one big infomercial.
Dont get me wrong - I am disappointed in this update, I re-designed my main site two months ago and virtually all the pages have disappeared from SJ and FI following a good April update.
Perhaps I have to much faith in the goodness of Google - it is however suprising if Google know that there is a lot of missing data (and from what GG has said they do know that there is missing data) that they are happy for these serps to go mainstream.
But I am sure we will learn by hanging out at Webmasterworld and testing our own sites with what works and what does not work in Google and other Search Engines.
However I am a one man show - and for the SEO out here with clients asking the questions I can understand the stress levels!
I agree, it's irrational to tell your customers that their sites will appear somewhere you have no control over ;). But seriously, I don't think any of our sites in any category probably have a monopoly on being relevant or decent.
Do we honestly expect them to just schedule things so we can be sure we get our edits based on the new algorithm in before each major crawl? The more I read this thread the happier I am I got penalized on one of my sites, I had to wake up and realize there were ways to sell outside of Google.
Dayo, understood and agreed. Same thing over here.
I just hesitate to believe that this is G keeping us on our heels. This more resembles a major problem with -sj and -fi. As I had said before, I was just fine waiting util we had a fully updated index. I was prepared to be as patient as necessary.
Then Wham! The GG self-prescibed incomplete index went live on AOL and Yahoo. Thus crossing all lines of integrity. And 2000 posts later, we have yet to get an answer other than there is "nothing more to add".
What a mess!
