Forum Moderators: open
I have a site that is *live* on Google right now, with about 1700 pages indexed.
I use absolutely no questionable tactics whatsoever.
I got deeped to the tune of 10K pages in April.
I don't have *one single page* in sj.

eFactory states that the Google Dance started on May 2 2003 and that 1/8, www-sj.google.com, of it is completed
Forgive my ignorance but I've never heard of eFactory.
Are they reliable? I tend to trust the experience of users of this forum.
Who are eFactory and where do they get their information? Anyone here got the lowdown on them?

This says to me that this is a internal sj test, for what ever reason, and not any set update info.
Anyone?
E who?
Just because somebody says it, doesn't mean it's true.
I think I would trust an update announcement more from Webmaster World than I would EFactory.
Haven't seen one yet on WW.
The back links on SJ are way to messed up to be any kind of an update.
That bar on the right looks to me like the product of an automated php script. It probably looks at the various data centres for google and checks yahoo backlinks.
Basically it does what we do manually and gives a report on the status of the other data centres.
It's got confused because SJ is showing something different and it now thinks the dance has started.
This does not look to me like a hand edited page, this is a script running.
Don't trust it.
<EDIT: I take it back, see Markus' posting below, it's not automated, but it represents one persons opinion>

After I saw Deepbot in the logs, I immediately removed the link.
Doing a backlink search on www-sj only shows this one link to my now +50 backlinked domain.
ADDED: However, new pages that did not exist during the site's initial deepcrawl appear in www-sj

This could make me think it is an update.
But they are showing no backlinks and I think if it was an update they would show backlinks.
That makes me think it is not an update.
Some ranking differences in the SERPS of sj to them in the normal index. Some sites in the TOP3 that only have 5 backlinks from Forum- and Guestbook - Sites.
That makes me think it is an test, because when it is not a test I really have to ask myself how the hell those sites get up there.
So I think 66% no update, 33% update (but a bad one) ;-)
Trust it or not, IMO the sj index fulfils all the indicators of an update: changed backlinks, new PR showing when you put the data centers IP in your hosts file for toolbarqueries.com, results already showing on www, severe changes in rankings etc.
Of course, it may be a test, but it is an update.
OK, so efactory is your site?
With respect, I think a caveat to say that "it has all the hallmarkings of a dance, but we're not 100% sure yet" would be helpful to your users.
I'm not convinced yet, and I'm sure you'll see not many on this website are!
But, if you turn out to be right, I'll be the first to tip my hat in your direction!

(gone wrong - i hope)
I was talking to one of the Directory Support guys for Yahoo in the UK today who mentioned that they are having technical problems with their Directory / Web search and are doing testing.. I know you're all chatting about Google but wondered if there might be a connection being that Yahoo results are powered by Google.
A lot of people have said that www-sj is the data centre for Yahoo and Alexa.
Yahoo seems to be fine for me at the moment though.
Maybe something in what you say
