Looks like they are testing the www-sj.google.com server again. I see 384k backlinks for yahoo and the serps are different.

"Hey, I'll be happy to ask around here about SJ."

Now we know, SJ=SECRET JUNK

And just when I was about to lock this one down...

Hm,GoogleGuy you'll be happy to ask around?
Why can't you just tell us what sj is, then it would be easier to post a opinion on the search results. Filters off? Filters on? What about the backlinks, seems that there are less than in regular index? Why are never seen sites with no PR and no backlinks in TOP10?

My take on GG's comments is if he has to ask about sj, then it is not the update.

Thank God.

Those were some bad results. Period.

>Trying not to read too much into those few words... but I personally presume from what you just said that the sj results are NOT the start of the dance.

I presume GG would know if the dance had started, and wouldn't need to ask.

Nope - I used to have 25 pages listed. Deepbot crawled 1000 (new) pages of mine in the last crawl, and in -sj, only about 15 pages are listed, some new and some old.

" its like every update, results only look bad if your site is not looking good!"

True, but I've never seen such an outcry of "ugghh!" from so many webmasters here since the infamous Sept. update last year.

There's just too many people here saying yuck for this to be a case of a few webmasters not happy with their results.

To me GG's comments "Hey, I'll be happy to ask around here about SJ" are as clear as day. It means sj results are NOT the start of the update.
Like Zapatista said if he has to ask about the sj results then it cannot be the update because he would have known about it.

Update or not, I am now fairly certain my new site will make it into the top ten for my keywords based on www-sj.

A quick link at the flux of backlinks for yahoo does make it look like a dance. (no, i am not saying that it is). First check I made showed only 1000, just now checked and saw 384,000. WWW is showing 661000 i believe. My own sites have fluxed like that wildly too.

needinfo,

My www-sj results are above the past number one position holders placement. They have been #1 for months. My site is by the book with links from a PR-6/7 site.

Note I said: "fairly certain..."

ok maybe its not the dance......BUT if its not its the 1st time one of the data centers has changed backlinks and it not being an update?!

I dont think its a complete 'update' as the backlinks have gone down far too much, but there defo doing something!

sj definitely is new because I see my new domains in there purchased after the last update but it looks like it has not counted the links yet or pr.

The last update started late on the llth, so probably settled around the 16th. I think 2 weeks is too early for next one to start. I think they're just using it to test stuff out. Still have another week, people need to stop panicking.

Googleguy, any news about what's up with www-sj yet? I'd love to hear what kind of update/test/tease this is ...

:::Longest thread...everrrr.

I take it you wern't here a few months ago. You've seen NOTHING! We scared Google so bad that they finally told us the update would be with in 48 hours! *hint* I guess they had enough hearing about webmasters jumping out of 10 story windows!

I can almost hear GG saying: Folks, get yourself a cold beer or a "Sex on the beach" and just relax. Enjoy the weekend, the beach, the mountains or whatever and get a real_life.

SEO-Translation for that: This is no update ;-)

my www www2 and www3 results rolled all the way from 2 months ago results, to 3 months ago results and now back to two week ago results, all in the space of 14 hours today.

but the sj results are different again entirely and seem like the results of a crawl 4 weeks ago.

what's happening Googleguy?

Over 30 minutes since a post about the sj panic.
People aren't doing their part.

I think sj=Scared Jitless.

All was quiet on the Mountain View front. No word from GG, except a coy remark.

Meanwhile, many of the www-sj characteristics show a database that includes huge numbers of new pages crawled during April. Pages that went 404 are properly missing for the first time in the www-sj index.

If not an update, it's a darn good imitation of one.

All was quiet on the front ... too quiet.
