yes www-ab is still in updating stage ... hopefully it won't affect the others ....

is it possible to for PR2 site beat PR4 due to word density?

maybe i should wait for the end of update. its kinda exciting!

Ooohh,

for me, -sj has the winners. No Spam. For where I know spam is, anyway...

rfgdxm1... I have been spending too much time with www2, www3, and www-ex... just checked the www-ab. WOW is right! As you said, the SERPs are all over the place for several of my keywords.

Have been up since 1am - now thanks to "rfgdxm1 watch," it looks like I'm going to be up a lot longer. :)

Yup, ab is fluctuating minute by minute.. possibly indicated the update is being put to that center? I can't imagine why it would have totally different rankings from everywhere else... but I like it as well, ab boosts me #27 slots on the one-word phrase while the other centers drop me 4 slots.

Me too! Try -sj. I am seeing amazing clean SERPS there!
My eyes can't believe it!
What a feeling to see (relatively, but quite) spam free! (maybe it's the PVD in the headphones and the caffeine..)

I agree that www-ab has completely weird results. I hope this is not the new index, I like www-ex a lot better :)

Little chance ircgeeks, look at the numner of results. I bet Google didn't decrease the index with a factor 10 or so?

If Google is listening....

For my keywords 1, 5, & 6 > www-ex
For my keywords 2, 3, & 7 > www-ab
For my keywords 4, 8, & 9 > www-sj

ROFL. Looks to me like something is broken at that datacenter. At least I hope so, because my sites are doing terrible there. However, by looking at the SERPs basically everything is out of whack. Other sites I'd expect to do well are buried, while garbage is rising to the top.

Interesting update this time....directories have huge changes for our classification. Think Google finally got around to them this time. They have been stagnant for months. Kept hearing because of Dmoz lack of dump...maybe....but definitley major shuffling here.

So is this really an update or a false alarm?

Hey,

This is only my second dance. This is big time different from the last one (the late one). Does someone have a theory as to how things are working this time wrt the datacenters and the www2, www3? I assumed that when you type in 'www google com' you queried one of the datacenters, but that doesn't seem to be happening now...

The update monitor says - "No Update using standard checks..."

So was this a false alarm?

How long do updates usually take rfgdxm1?

Hmm, maybe i can start a site selling diapers and kleenex and do some advertising at WebmasterWorld. I will be rich :)
Reading thru all these posts of people complaining, the same stuff over and over again. Different update, same complaints. Just fill out a spam report and move on.
Whining doesn't get you anywhere. Just make a good clean site and play by the rules, concentrate on that. If you do that you can sleep at night never having to worry about getting penalized. Just build a good site that people would want to link too and follow sound optimization techniques. If you play by the rules in the long run you will be ahead.

Crikey (Aussie slang!),

This thread is long... I might as well add to it and say that we are happy. Our new magazine has jumped up to PR6 in our growing network.

Our other 2 sites are also 6 (one has increased from 5).

Good stuff.
If we get every new magazine that we are launching up to a 6 straight away, and get freshbot and daily crawls then Ill continue on in my happy state!

I run a site for body care products, and am sick of competing with spammers.

This present update my site shows page 3 – 4 for competitive keywords using what I thought were good and ethical techniques, but thus far not effective.

Now even a page at Stanford.edu is using hidden links, google says not a good idea!

Seems like a good idea to me, the linked to page is number #2 for a popular health care search phrase.

Given that the Stanford page is a PR6 gives me the impression it would not be number #2 without the hidden link.

If that is not enough there are a further 3 hidden links on the page to various sites not related to skin care.

Why hide them?

Perhaps using the PR6 to best effect

So my question is, can't you or can you use hidden text without fear of a penalty?

Pretty cool...

I can actually watch one of the local (wrt serp) spammers (20kb of spam) moving down the ladder on -sj. If I refresh every once in a while, I can see that they've moved further down... or so it seems...

Absolutely right rfgdxm1
Somebody responsibly must know for the problem with DMOZ links. This Google update is not complet.
Waiting for the next update …? Without solution!
No, no, no …

FAST had listed DMOZ links before seven days.
Where is the competition? Where is the power Google answer?
Where is GoogleGuy now?

My sites are doing well this time around, but Google are keeping me hanging because www2 and www are still different.

If www2 is going to be the finished result, then I have noticed Spam going down a tad, but not much. I really do not see that Google have made any major changes on this update. I think they have just done a refresh. Anyone else think that way?

I am happy because my sites are hopefully doing well, but they are doing well because I adopted certain practices for SEO purposes, not for users. Which makes me kind of sad. I have not Spammed, just optimized and worked with other site owners. I actually much preferred my sites before I did what I "had" to.

Newman, point me to a specific url or query that clearly demonstrates the problem.

> Newman, point me to a specific url or query that clearly demonstrates the problem.

GoogleGuy,

On www2 my site has DMOZ description, but not DMOZ link!
On DMOZ my link name is the same like my home page name - targeting keywords. (3-word combination; for example: best site online)
But on www2 my site (for example: best site online) is somewhere between #200-300 for that phrase – results about 400,000.
For two words combination (for example: site online), site is #4 – results about 700,000.
Logic or not?

PS. On Fast my site is #1 for the same 3-word combination phrase.

The listings are very different for me for my search terms on www, www2 and www3. Will the ones on www2 and www3 lead over to www or is it already updated and if so why are they different?

Thanks,
Shawn

>Newman, point me to a specific url or query that clearly demonstrates the problem.

While the mods don't like specifics, I'll cite an ODP cat where I see this problem where my sites aren't listed:

http://dmoz.org/Recreation/Drugs/Psychedelics/Mushrooms/

PR4 cat, and I can't find a backlink from dmoz.org on any of the listed sites in www2. This isn't the only child cat in Recreation/Drugs where Google isn't showing backlinks that they should.
