AlexK, that's a different domain. But the point is very well taken. You've found a pretty obscure query (~295 results) that the keyword stuffing spammers like to target. I'll check this out in more detail.

Big G did this same thing last year right before the holidays. Weeks and weeks of mamba. Pump-up Adwords revenue during heavy buying season and twist the knobs back to reality after the holidays. The cycle forces site marketers to buy ads to survive during periods of lost organic rankings. Bid prices rise. Demand perpetually increases. Wait and see. Sites lost now will return and then others will disappear. And the cycle continues. Earnings have to support a booming stock price to impress Wallstreet.
The normal (non SEO user never really notices the difference in the results because substantially they always appear relevant.
Pretty good marketing strategy.
It is also what Google need to do - no doubt about it.
I am not being just selfish here (as I said I obv. want my site to return)
But until they fix the problem they are failing in there mission statement of "Google's mission is to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful."
Basically Google are not reaching all of the worlds information and making it accessible. EG Sites are not getting crawled or ranked due to bugs.
Look at Salon99 test - this does not surprise me in the slightest. There are huge gaps in the index - so Google need to fix it if they want to move towards the Mission Statement.
Here is a question for you experts from someone who is definitely not.
We have two web sites that use hosts in the US. Both web sites went on line in the 1990s but on hosts in Poland and have a www.mysite.com.pl domain name.
Both are content/information sites with no purposeful tricks or games or errors. Both have over 2000 individual pages and are linked by many other sites, large and small.
On 21 July 2005 the number of visitors to both our web sites dropped drastically. We made no changes here other than our daily updates.
On 16-17 October, traffic to one page went back to the pre 21 July 2005 level. We had not made any changes other than our daily updates.
On 27-28 October, traffic to that page dropped drastically again. We had not made any changes other than our daily updates.
And since 28 October, for some reason, during the time period 0300 to 0500 Eastern Time, our traffic jumps. It is two to three times the level of the traffic before and after that two hour time period.
Since we do not monitor key words or target key words, I can say little about anything about any particular key word. It is just an overall traffic drop that seems to have affected my site in general.
What is odd is how it dove in one day, and then after a long period, jumped in one day, stayed up for about 10 days and then dove again. We have not changed our site and I do not know of anything that would have caused an up and down cycle like this.
Is this related to what is going on with Jagger - about which I understand absolutely nothing?
Is it related to my .pl domain being on a US server and I am penalized for that? My visitors are mostly from the US.
Can anyone give me any hints as to where I can look or what I should do?
Thank you.
Trust MC that by the time he is finished with it, it will ;)

THAT'S WHAT I CALL SCIENTIFIC AND COMMENSENSICAL!

My new philosophy on life and exercise.
Q: I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life. Is this true?
A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it... don't waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer? Take a nap.
__________
Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?
A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does a cow eat? Hay and corn. And what are these? Vegetables. So a steak is nothing more than an efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef is also a good source of field grass green leafy vegetable). And a pork chop can give you 100% of your recommended daily allowance of vegetable products.
__________
Q. Should I reduce my alcohol intake?
A: No, not at all. Wine is made from fruit. Brandy is distilled wine, that means they take the water out of the fruity bit so you get even more of the goodness that way. Beer is also made out of grain. Bottoms up!
_________
Q. How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?
A: Well, if you have a body and you have body fat, your ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc.
_________
Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program?
A: Can't think of a single one, sorry. My philosophy is: No Pain...Good.
_________
Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you?
A: YOU'RE NOT LISTENING!. Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil. In fact, they're permeated in it. How could getting more vegetables be bad for you?
______
Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle?
A: Definitely not! When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger. You should only be doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach.
_____
Q: Is chocolate bad for me?
A: Are you crazy? HELLO ...... Cocoa beans ... another vegetable! It's the best feel-good food around!
_____
Q: Is swimming good for your figure?
A: If swimming is good for your figure, explain whales to me.
_____
Q: Is getting in-shape important for my lifestyle?
A: Hey! 'Round' is a shape!
_____
Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets and remember,"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand -
strawberries in the other body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming - WOO HOO! What a Ride!"

The UK results are currently using a mix of .7 and .9 results imo.
The camp 7 lovers are not happy because the new results are not pure enough in relation to the search term due to old non relevant sites ranking high due to age only and also the number of directory sites that feature
Meanwhile the camp 9 lovers are not happy because old sites they own or directory sites they own may not be now ranking as high as they were before the update.
I think the current mix is currently as best as we can perhaps hope for.
For me i would have liked to have seen .7 used 100% for the results as they were the most relevant and thats what i use a search engine for. The camp 9 fans here would obviously disagree.
Good luck all.
Unless you monitor your keywords, you will never know how well your site is performing for specific key words and against your competitors.
Unless you know where you were in the serps for keywords, you have nothing to compare your current rankings with, and I don't think any one here is going to be able to give you any advice on that.
The only advice you will get is to start to monitor and to continue to monitor your serps positions for your key words.

Maybe I shouldn't have done the canonical issue fix?
Something went totally awol here
my test terms shows now
blafasle.weirdurl.com/searchterm?PHPSESSID=3434c7ab3e6d637915a672d5141cf2666f - 27k - Zusätzliches Ergebnis - Im Cache - Ähnliche Seiten
Zusätzliches Ergebnis = supplemental result
A supplemental result first, followed by more supplementals ... eeehh what.
Rule One: If it works, don't mess with it!
Even if Google manages to get this change through, and even if it increases revenue somewhat (unlikely), I believe that in the end, the algorithms will eventually Freeze Up.
The process of change is too painful to the Status Quo.
Just look at healthcare, or pensions, or social security in the USA.... Even small proposed changes get shot down by some group or other. Either the doctors, or HMOs, or accountants, or poor, or rich, or old or young -- Someone ALWAYS complains too noisily. Result: nothing changes...
Just my 32 cents.
In our case I think that one can sense that since there has been a drop in overall traffic, all pages were affected in their positions in the SERPS. That includes our news articles and political op ed pieces submitted by local pundits.
It makes no sense to monitor key words for news articles, op eds, travel commentary and the like. There are no competitors for these.
We are not selling widgets. We provide content only.
Because of the mass of news articles, etc. we see a given amount of traffic to our mass of pages. The mass of traffic was affected by something on three dates I mentioned.
I am asking if there is anyone else out there who has seen this or understands a traffic jump like this. The jumps were sharp. They took place over a couple hours.
Could it be related to Jagger 3? Or could there be something else involved.?
petehall
for our keyword phrases it's the other way around and the SERPS look identical.
.7 is now fluxing to be either less or more than .9!
All eyes on the 9 for a J3 resurrection later this week! I could of course be wrong.
This should be update Elvis, as you're never really 100% sure whether the results are dead or not! + it's surely the king of updates?
