The same down-and-on problem here in Turkey.
But j3 goes on and off. No steady results. At least three different sets:
216.239.63.104 (I think with additional tweaks)
64.233.161.104 (still J2)
64.233.179.104 (J3)
I'm not gonna tell how cold it is here in Denmark these days. The wind makes it feel colder than it is. Still a great Saturday.
Let X-Mas shopping begin, and let me take a look at those family X-Mas gifts wish lists. Maybe I need to take a look at my AdSense stats first :-)
WOW......
The serps (for the sector I'm watching) on The Mother of All Test DCs [64.233.179.104...] have changed since I went to bed yesterday night. They look very nice from here. I'm not going to do it, but I really feel singing for Google this morning :-)
Good morning GG & Matt!
What are you waiting for to call for our feedback? maybe Inigo is waiting for more changes to happen. At least I feel that way.
Maybe Inigo has a X-Mas gift in the shape of a fix for Dayo_UK canonicals and steveb suppelmentals. Who knows!
Wish you all a great shopping Saturday.
Very interesting post!
I think that changes on the test-Dc [64.233.179.104...] are mostly about:
- less spam at top of the serps
- better search quality "relevancy"
- major 301/302 fix
- minor canonicals fix
- minor supplementals fix
I.e good news for the webmaster community, and for Google itself!
Now do the same search on Y or MSN 80% relevant out of 10 sites displayed everyone was bang where it should have been 8/10
>>Reseller, translate all this into some English for me. Is your traffic up or down?<<
To me, english is a third language, and you ask me to translate to english. Are you sure you don't wish me to translate it to Danish for you :-)
Honestly, traffic of my site is about the same plus/minus small % . But if the results on that Test-DC will migrate to the other DCs, traffic will be much better for sure. Still operating in 50% of my pre-Allegra Google's referrals.
>>I'm sorry reseller, there is nothing good about that DC on a few of the test searches I just did. directories/blogs/redirects/yahoo all in the top 10 on one search I did, then followed that over to page 2, spammy doorways/redirects/trojans and subs so nope I'd say 3/10 for that attempt at a DC<<
That doesn't sound good at all. So much spam would hurt the index and whitehat webmasters for sure. Hopefully once we start sending feedback, the folks at Google will pay more attention to spam than they are doing now.
Lets hope so ;-)
>>how much more feedback can we keep spending bud! and why oh why is it all the other SE's seem to be able to do this with ZERO! support from webmaster<<
For one reason or the other, Google hasn't been able to resolve important issues as "Dayo_UK canonicals" and "Steveb supplementals", as well as 301/302 and spam.
We as webmasters wish to help Google, but in return expect to see the said issues resolved once and for ever.
Maybe the case of that Test-DC is another attempt from Google just to do that. Who knows ;-)
Google has its plan and it is going to pursue that plan. Webmasters do not figure in. The people who search Google and who sell adsense are important. That can be spammers and directories.
Google is just patronizing us. We come and go.
Spend time on all those other things that you should be doing to sell something. When Google is ready, they will do something. Until then, don't waste time chasing your tails.
I started programming in 1963. Since then I have watched people come and go. The big guns are generally history.
The people on this board will be replaced. They are but temporary. There may be a webmaster category, but the people will be different.
Search engines will change as well.
Such is life and business.
Been doing this for four years now, white hat SEO. The trend has only ever been upward, punctuated by a few massive blips (Florida, etc). There's always a better way, just adapt.
Don't bother waiting for google to die any time soon; I think she's an altogether different phenomenom to Alta Vista.
I don't want to see G go the same way although the way its currently running you have to ask yourself if its not making some massive mistakes with this current set of results and the fact that the animal "THEY" have created with MFA sites inst what they are trying to clean up from its own serps or not depending on what you look at
I would just like to see a wider spread of SE usage but the problem is most people tend to view searching now as just Googling and nothing more so the others right now don't stand much of a chance, that is until Mr Gates gets his marketing head on and trys to capitalise on this "update"
>I think she's an altogether different phenomenom to Alta Vista
I agree Suggy
The other search engines are producing much, much poorer results than Google.
Jagger3 and human intervention through the spam reporting have managed to vastly improve Google's search results and have given Google a huge database of clean websites.
In the summer I was very vocal in criticising the quality of Google's serps. Google has responded in a very positive way.
It will take any other search engine years to catch up presuming they go for a similar backlink approach and do not discover something technologically better.
This forum is misrepresentative of Google's fortunes. The people still posting here are the bitter losers from Jagger who cannot face up to their spam techniques not working for them anymore.
You should all face up to the end of easy-money SEO. You've had years of being able to profit handsomely from the relatively simple task of creating a network and interlinking it. This after many years of profitingly handsomely from writing 'widget, widgets.......' in invisible text all over your clients sites.
If this is the end of spam SEO then it is a good thing!
Maybe you could use your experience to go into junk mailing, junk flyer distribution, or maybe fly tipping?
I agree in some points. However I doubt that webmasters being dumped by Google need your accusations.
If you are feeling good with Google, that's alright. I think, Google is state of the art in SE-Business.
However there are flaws and problems. And it's way too easy - and not very kind - to tell people that they are spammers just because they have problems with Google now.

Translating: I'm doing much better now.

Translating: Google, please don't change the SERSs!
Overall Conclusion: You were a "bitter loser" prior to J3
For you to say that everyone doing poorly post J3 is a spammer is quite a leap. Do you kick cats too?
Yes, that is pretty much what it is I guess.
Unbelievable post really CityofGold - I have seen your site - it had the same symptons of sites that are still struggling - you got lucky that Google has resolved the issue with your site I guess.
Sites can come back from the bug.
If I come back from this awful bug that has effected so many sites - I hope I dont come on this forum on the high ground calling everyone who struggles in Google a spammer.
CityofGold - really you should know better - Google bugs and errors effect sites - it really is not as simple as saying that everyone who is having problems is a spammer.
Agree more or less with the last three posts.
and.. for those who are doing better now after Sept22-Jagger
You must be just a little nervous that ***Google can't fix its bugs** - because when they do where will that leave you?
and.. for those screwed by Sept22-Jagger it is somewhat understandable to be frustrated with the results when *** Google can't seem to fix its bugs!***
You can't advance without fixing, canonicals, suplementals and the Sept 22 duplicate content penalties. Is it really that hard?
So Google pleease spend a little time to **Fix your bugs** or a least put it on your list of things to do for the new year.

He made a good point, though: Just because a few dozen (or even a few hundred) SEOs and Web entrepreneurs on Webmaster World have taken a hit in Google doesn't mean Google is going the way of AltaVista, that Yahoo and MSN are serving up better results, or that investment bankers on Wall Street are looking over Google search engineers' shoulders and telling them how to tweak their algorithms so they can sell more AdSense ads. What matters is whether users are seeing better or worse results. And the measure of Google's success with users is market share, not the number of complaints on Webmaster World. (Indeed, one could argue that Google is probably doing something right when WW members start complaining, because most of the complaints are likely to be from SEOs and Webmasters whose attempts to influence the SERPs have become less effective.)
None of this means that Google shouldn't fix its canonical problems or other glitches, but one would have to be very naive to think that everyone who's taken a hit in the SERPs is a victim of technical problems at Google.
