Could this be a bubble sort algo, and we are seeing the results go from worst to best very slowly?
At this rate the good stuff should be up either tonight or tomorrow by lunch!
Where does everyone get this inside information ;)
Previous to this if you did a search on google.ie and selcted 'results from ireland only' when searching with <keyword1>, the site was ranked #1. Similarly if you typed in '<keyword1> forums' on a google-wide search on google.com, that section was first page'd. But now both are gone.
I must admit I was a bold boy and had some keywords hidden in there, maybe a bit too much, and I dont really need them.
So I've removed them for now, along with trimming the <title> tag and a few other things and i'll see in a week (give it time to settle down) how I'm doing.

[edit reason] No specifics please. [/edit]
Yesterday on .fr, .de, .it, .es etc we were ranking first page - but no where in the listings on google.com or any of the IP's etc.
I have no idea whats going on, sometimes I'm excited, other times I'm totally despondent!
- The #1 result is a deep page(not their home page)
- meta desc or meta kw lines do not exist (hmm.. maybe I should try this)
- title does not have the word "kw1" in it
- the combo "kw1 kw2" is in the text only 2 times
- PR of only 5
The #2 result is PR6 and #3 is PR7
Austin is taking us to the Wild Wild West.
I am over the "getting excited phase"--just have to wait--- i would be a little more excited if i saw some of the foreign results (fr.it) over here.
who knows
Problem is, while it's working (or seems to be) to a small degree, it's opened a whole new can of worms which is harming SERPs. I have targetted some common mis-spellings, like many people, and have been pretty successful for the last 18 months or so. Now, post-Austin, G is in some cases smart enough to spot the mis-spelling and serve up the pages that would have been served up had the keyword been spelled 'correctly' That's great for searchers and while it ends the nice run of doing well from mis-spellings for me, I don't mind because it improves G as a search engine and that has to be good for everybody.
What sticks in my craw is that although broad matching has succeeded on a very small scale, there are still many sites with the misspellings high up the results but which have little or no relevancy. Whereas I, for no reason I can determine, seem to have been penalised. Some spam has gone with Austin but it's been replaced in most cases with different spam. And also, as a partial result, there are more shopping comparison results than ever. How many times on one page do I need to be offered the opportunity to compare pricing for blue widgets? It's in the sponsored results, adwords adds, and several times in the SERPs.
While broad matching is a lovely idea, I can't believe that G has introduced an algo which attempts to second guess searchers needs in such a half-baked state (if it has, of course).
However, making a widget (without quotes) on both returns drastically different top 10 results.
Also, I noticed that making a widget (sans quotes) on .fr has results very similar to "making a widget" on .fr
This is the behaviour .com exhibited pre-update, at least for what I was typing in.
My guess is the behaviour will be the same in all the non-english sites. Which leads me to believe that the update is not live on .fr / .it, but that is just conjecture at this point.
But Shasan, wouldn't they just show pre-austin results then? These are totally different results from last week.
Thanks to the last couple of updates, I don't depend on Google as much as I use to. We may have to all get use to that idea.

I thought I WAS seeing pre-austin results.. they look very last-week to me. But, other people have also said that the regional results are different from .com but also different from last week.
Is it possible for .com to go live with certain updates while the regions go live with something different? curiouser and curiouser.
