First heart stopping moment of 2003, PR had gone from 4 down to 3, gulp. Relief, checked again and up to 5, then back to 4. As long as the 3 doesn't stick I''ll be happy. Backlinks up from 1 to 110.
That's just hysteria. Not only aren't they unreliable, besides Google dmoz is the most reliable entity on the Internet and that takes into account the RDF dump failures. Every other entity has proven itself time and again much worse. It's not perfect, but it is far and away the best there is -- and it accomplishes that with nearly zero money.

But then right now I tested one of my main keywords and now www shows the same as www3.
If we really are through I can only say that this has been a good update for me. Better than I had dared hope.
So maybe it is a quick update our we are at the very beginng.

Yawn. It's just so totally ridicuous.
RDF and other associated glitches do not impact the fact that DMOZ is the biggest and highest quality directory on the net - by miles. The glitches should neither be used as a flimsy excuse to attack.
Criticising what exists without basis or justification is just so easy. Creating something worthwhile is rather harder. Anyone with merit surely contributes to the latter rather than standing on the sidelines throwing stones.
By the way: DMOZ is not 'owned' by AOL, only administrated by them. It is not owned by anyone, which is another of its great strengths.
Sorry, just had to say that, I just got in this morning to find the update well underway. GREAT results for my new site, up to PR4 from PR0 on www2, and number 1 for my most important string! :)
Not so good for my older, more established site, though, the number of backlinks has doubled but I'm still PR5 and only minor improvements in SERPs. What does it take to get a PR6, jeeze!? I guess my new links must not be very good quailty.
What's the opinion at this point, is the update pretty much over, or can we expect more PR changes?

Based on the SERPs for my main keywords. Anyway it definately not over yet.
AFAIK www-sj and www-zu aren't in use. Anyone know different?
But something gave way ... because my PR went from 7 to 6 and I lost more than a third of my links.
I made no changes ... and as far as I can tell, my competition made no changes, either.
Grrr.
To check what your new amount of backlinks are do a search on www2.google.com with the term:
link:www.yourdomain.com
(Replace yourdomain with your domain name)
If you search on www.google.com with that you will get either the new amount or the old amount because we are still in the Dance.
You have arrived at a busy time of the month!
Google backlinks are sites that link to you and are indexed by Google.
You download the Google toolbar, here:
[toolbar.google.com...]
You can can check the PR (PageRank - based on number of backlinks) of your site and how many people link to you (just click on page info and select Backward Links).
Note - sites wont show up as backlinks if they have a PR of 4 or less.

Paradoxically, not being owned by anyone is also its greatest weakness.
