I think that the dance begins with an "addaggio" interpreted by datacenters, soon continues with an "allegro" played by yahoo backlinks.

Yes this does seem different. Checking the backlinks there are a number missing unless they upped the cutoff point to show up with the link: command. Also, the number of backlinks listed with the omitted results included has always been exactly half the amount of results said to be returned. Now it is less than half, although it's not giving me the 'include omitted results' option.

It checks www, www2, and www3 - which are all 3 setting at last months numbers here. Maybe the update process is going to change.

Nope, this is different...my brand new site is now indexed on ex-google. Thing I don't understand (and maybe because I'm a newbie) is why do I show no backlinks..and why do I not have any PR yet? As well, I went searching through my keyphrases and I can't find my listing in the top 200!? :(

Contents of -ex clearly consider recent changes. Confirmed for me accross dozens of sites. It is early, but clearly portends the days to come.

Dropped one in the PR on one site.

*sigh* This is after being listed recently on Dmoz / Yahoo and having 900 more pages being indexed.

Definately causing some issues with placement on www-ex for some of the targetted keywords.

Not that big an issue .. the site is only 3 or 4 months old. Plenty of time to change. :)

[edited:- Ugh! Dropped a PR point on 3 sites. From 5 across the board to 4 across the board. Definately going to have to get some advice from the gurus now.]

It would be cool if GoogleGuy gave a shout and let us know if google-ex is the real deal for this update. If so, I'm bummin!

Lost a lot of backlinks according to google-ex, even though we truly doubled our backlinks. We also dropped 20+ positions for several keywords which we've optimized for even more than before with anchor text, H1's, etc.

Google-ex, say it ain't so!

I'd just like to confirm both the appearance of the update, and that I'm noticing a lot of PR-lowering in my industry. I'd say 70% of my competitors dropped 1 full rank. I have noticed that most of them don't seem too keen on acquiring incoming links, must not be WW readers. (Meanwhile, we've gone up 1 PR each of the last 2 updates - hehe :] )

the links on www-ex are showing one of my sites dropping from 382 to 296 which cannot possibly be right. Thats what it was at last month

It looks like it on www-ex - not only the Yahoo backlinks, but I'm seeing backlinks changed on all my sites and there's only one site that hasn't changed position.

Looks to me like they trounced multiple links from the same site from a quick look. I suspect they've dealt a hit to back-links.

rfgdxm1 I agree with you on the update.

I think there is a very big change going on though. Perhaps the update is going to involve a lot more than www www2 and www3 I think this one is going to be very gradual across lots of the data centers.

I still can't figure out how to see my new PR for my currently PR3 site but can I assume that if the -ex server IS showing backlinks now, that I will at least achieve a PR4 this time?

I should be nearby over the next few days. While people are around, let me mention a few things. Several people should see the results of reinclusion requests with the new index. Before a new crawl starts is also the best time to send a reinclusion request (email to webmaster@google.com with the subject line "reinclusion request" and explain how you've cleaned up the site). I don't know when a new crawl will start, but better to be early than late with a reinclusion request.

Last thing I wanted to mention: I'd appreciate any spam reports of pages with hidden text or hidden links over the next couple weeks. If you've already submitted a report on a page, you don't need to re-submit it though. Thanks everyone..

The ip address of the ex datacenter is 216.239.33.100, which is the same ip that www2 used previously. I wonder if we could make the assumption that checking backlinks at [216.239.33.100...] would be a better place to look that www-ex or www2

Marcia: Definately something fishy.

1) I can see they've picked up my new site from its Dmoz listing.
2) The backlinks have been seriously reduced. Does not show Yahoo or Dmoz.org linking back to me. Is that normal?

I'm hoping that this is a case of us panicing before the update has settled on www-ex

Ok. Just thought about it. Yahoo / Dmoz pages are < PR3 so they're not being used in the links:thingy.

Bit unfair for those of us in regional / international categories.. *shrug* :(
