Major changes to AdSense

Pricing structure and ad relevance

Unless adsense is sending out a april fools joke, what do people think of the changes? Every site has a unique pricing model?

For example, a click on an ad for digital cameras on a web page about photography tips may be worth less than a click on the same ad appearing next to a review of digital cameras.

I got immediate revenue increase since the new adsense and I think it is well deserved for my site.

Put me in the camp with those that have seen an increase in AdSense income.

However,

1). It's still too early to tell.
2). I don't trust AdSense.

AdSense is just one income source from about 5 that I have, so I am not dependent on it. I will continue to shop around for other revenue sources to minimize my risk.

The best thing AdSense has done for publishers lately is the channels feature which has led me to remove AdSense from 2 content websites altogether and re-emphasize advertising for my existing advertisers that pay more.

I wonder what will happen 'IF' G starts to put "1 gig Gmail" next to the "ads by Google" line?

There are at least six of us seeing an increase in revenuew. Good for them. Lets hope more of us can say the same by month's end. Unfortunately for me, my ads are now paying much less and they were never blockbusters to begin with. :(

Yidaki: I meant to say that the whole thing seems like a price discount. However, some people do seem to be making more money under the new regime so I will take it back, and go back to the "lets wait and see until the end of the month".

Well, the last two days we have about a 50% reduction in EPC. A slight increase in click through rate (CTR).

We had over 80,000 unique visitors last month, this will be felt.

I doubt there is a new magic formula which will increase our CTR. We seen a change about January 1 slightly reducing our CTR. I suspect they have been holding back.

I'm sure with all the smoke, mirrors and drum beating, GG has benefited ($$) with this change.

I do appreciate the notification letter from GG about this change.

I sincerely hope these changes benefit the advertisers and the overall success of the adwords advertising program.

A couple of threads on the AdWords forum say there's been a decline in the availability of 5-cent ads, and that using AdWords has become more expensive. I wonder if this is why some AdSense publishers are seeing an increase in revenues while others are not.

Question for publishers who are seeing a jump in their earnings: Was your EPC quite low (e.g., single-digit) before the AdSense changes were announced?

Where have all the ads gone? My clicks have been cut in half (just starting yesterday,) due to the fact there is only one ad showing on all my pages that used to show the max number of ads, all very relevant to the content.
Definitely not happy about whatever is going on, especially since I've spent the last month putting together a new feature section (content-rich) and now all I see is that one...lame...ad... Hopefully it's just a flux and will be back to normal soon.

50,000 page views per day. EPC today down 70 % (was double digit now single) from pre-change, which is a few points worse than yesterday.

Click thru % has been driven artificially high due to G now counting 25% fewer page views per my server stats. If they were still counting actual page views click through percentage would be the same.

Is a padded CTR supposed to make up for a 70% revenue cut?

From my own experience, the shift in ads does appear to be a fluctuation. At first 3 out of 4 of my relevent ads disappeared. That night, most were back, but some odd-ball ones still showed up. This morning, all of my original ads were back. Granted, it hurt my earnings having those odd-ball ads, but I think things are going back to normal.

Big-time unfortunately, though, that wonderful 60% boost in EPC I was earning is gone today. =( Back to the ol' normal...
