Does anyone else see the toolbar greyed out for all sites? I'm not getting anything.

trouble is most webmasters do check whether the site / page has a good PR before exchanging links.
This is really the trouble. PR is misunderstood. It is (was?) definitely a poor policy to select link partners on the basis of their PR.

It seems obvious that google is using a 3 day holiday to revamp and make changes. With the stock exchange closed and now being a high profile public company, they don't want speculation and fear driving their stock price. You can see by the amount of posts and consternation how much effect it would have on their share value.
I feel certain that pr will return well before opening bell on tuesday.
If it doesn't? good riddance. It is a shame that one company has such a stranglehold on the internet. Bill gates must be green with envy. Next, we can only hope that the odp will take a nice pratfall. Let's face it. If the odp did not license to google no one would even know of it's existence. I don't begrudge the odp it's status but I believe it is a very capricious "forum" at best that really has no business dictating so much to the web. They are the perfect example that in "order there is chaos". Sorry to stump like this.

Why all the stress in this thread?

The reason for all the stress is there are a lot of us on here that are paid by clients to keep them up to date on the changes and they are screaming for an explanation ... thus the stress goes uphill in this case.

If no PageRank being displayed in the toolbar brings you stress that spawns from not being able to keep your clients happy, then maybe your not in the right field.

Page rank doesn't keep clients happy - ROI does ;)

I of course just got a hair up my... to do a link building campaign...

normally its really simple...

-find my competitors sites with the best page rank

-use something besides google to find all the links to them

-see which of those pages have rank worth requesting a link from

Without the toolbar - I'm totally lost.

From Google's perspective - "without the toolbar - that guy trying to game the SERPs is totally lost"

My $.02 - PR is dead.
