We shall not be seeing PageRank again (or at least as we know it) and the Google backlink tool has been showing useless results for months. In my mind Google is dead.
MSN or Yahoo need to introduce better tools for the webmaster and we webmasters/seo's will help to build those engines in the same way we have helped to build Google over the years.
We made the engine and we will break the engine. There are a heck of lot of <rather annoyed> webmasters out there and Google will suffer as a result.

Google seems to care more about keeping people from doing ANYTHING to increase ranking than they do about results. Just like anything else in this world, the best resources will spend the most time, effort, and money to get to the top. Good sites that provide good products and services have more money to spend on SEO. Why should they be punished for working hard to get to the top?
Because Google is trying so hard to prevent manipulation, the results will continue to become less relevant because they are shutting the best resources out.
I used to love Google, but now I see they are more interested in forcing people into advertising to get at the top than they are in providing good results.
