I have always been a big fan of PR....

Not only has it become a focal point for me since I'm in marketing, so I really should have it, but we all know how time consuming surfing the web can be when you are in search for something you need be it information, products or whatever...

PageRank has always given me a second opinion so-to-speak when I am viewing a web page....

In most cases, if I am considering buying a product, if the site has HIGH PR, then lots of other people must buy there products there too = Good Company

Again, In most cases, if I am reading a Blog or article and it has HIGH PR, I can give it some weight of my own while I am reading bacause = alot of people liked that article enough to link to it...

So in short, PR for me, actually saves me sometime when I'm trying to quickly evaluate what I am looking at, and for this point alone, I really hope we haven't seen the last of pagerank on the toolbar.....

Do any of the people who were around the last time this happened remember if there was a large backlink update to go with it or what?

people with offline copies of the google directory that display PR could earn some nice extra cash

Hello clasione

>>In most cases, if I am considering buying a product, if the site has HIGH PR, then lots of other people must buy there products there too = Good Company>>

Wrong! As PR is purely base on backlink and you can PURCHASE backlink for HIGHER PR. So your equation HIGH PR = GOOD COMPANY may go wrong many times.

NOTE : PR has no concern with quality of page/product/contents as in todays compititive world LINK Purchase is growing very rapidly. And some webmasters only exhcanging links just for PR.

Yes! if you keep research on backlink of such site it will easyly give you idea of Quality.

Sorry for using this forum as this discussion is not related to topic.

Some more speculation, anyone?

Why is the green stuff missing?

Answer 1: Probably in order to devalue the currency "link for sale" - and make the results better. Those of us focusing in the green bar will have to redo their homework. Come on - there's other ways to find out if a site is important, ever tried to key in a couple of keywords and analyse the result? They basically took away backlinks a long time ago, why not PR?

Answer2: They got sued by some hot-shot fortune 500 company complaining about the rating.

Answer3: Just a temporary glitch

Answer4: Market research. How many Posts on WW will this create? How widespread is public use/belief in out little gadget?

Answer5: They had offered a look into their kitchen -
as long as the user was willing to show everything he was doing on his machine. Give and take. Maybe they know enough by now?

What will happen if ....

1. Link-Money will shift from sites with a big green bar to a) well known sites that see the chance to make some extra money b) Sites that do every trick in the book to get #1 listings, giving the impression that a link from them is a must-have.

Others will jump in. We don't want complicated equations. We don't want to figure out. So there will be others that give a site or a page a certain value. I bet Yahoo and MSN are already wondering whether giving away some details could help them.

2. They'll sort that out and bring it back on.

3. They'll sort that out and bring it back on.

4.?

5.?

My guess: it's a glitch, or update or whatever. Maybe a new alg to disguise the real value better, maybe just a new toolbar coming WITH PR, but more crack-proof so the "knock-off-PR-showing-sites" lose some business.

Nerd

P.S.
I removed the toolbar at the office half a year ago and ever since customers and friends ask me, how I can work without it. Reminded me strongly of this situation: I tell somebody about SEO, and they answer "I know. That's all about meta tags".

mann, I do not agree....

your are right in the respect that pagerank is minipulatable, but as I said in "most cases" an online store with High pagerank can be considered a good business....

For an example, if you would like to make your point... You could point out a link to a "store front" site with a PR7 in the Google directory as an example of a site not to be trusted having a PR7...

If you can point out a link to such a resource, I will gladly except and agree with your comment.

I tell somebody about SEO, and they answer "I know. That's all about meta tags".

I think the best one Ive heard to date was when i was talking to someone about SEO and they said "yeah I know its done by Alphabetical order." rofl :)

Back to the Green Bar I really hope they bring it back personally. I must look at that bar hundreds of times a week, it gives me confidence in a site where i suppose really it does't show that much at all its more of a lazy way to check whether your link partner is worth linking to.
