Does anyone else see the toolbar greyed out for all sites? I'm not getting anything.

I must look at that bar hundreds of times a week, it gives me confidence in a site where i suppose really it does't show that much at all its more of a lazy way to check whether your link partner is worth linking to.

Why don't you look at your logs first - and if anythings's "wrong" at the SERP?

The PR number in itself is for entertainment purpose only, I have MYSELF heard this from a Google Guy over the phone. All that matters is links, and they are indeed an important part of the rankings.

I am not so sure about this. Granted, the PR tool is not as it once was and should not be used as an exclusive marketing tool. It is quite obvious that a website with a high PR can be out ranked by a site with a low PR. However that little green bar does tell you something about a page on a site. Ok it might be inaccurate but it is certainly not 100% misleading. Assume for a moment that link acquisition is for one purpose, that of increasing SERP placement. I for one would hesitate to reciprocate a link if the PR bar of a page was white, low PR or grey (hmmm now what!).

Some will no doubt disagree but I believe that the PR bar gives a rough indication of the value of a potential inbound link rather than the ranking value Google allocates to a website. I use it as an approximation tool and quick reference `LinkRank’ guide. A link from a PR7 site is at first glance more appealing than a link from a page with white bar. Yes there are many other variables that factor in to the calculation of the importance of an inbound link but IMHO PR is just another piece of the SEO puzzle.

If the PR bar is re-released and if it has been altered in any way it will spawn one of the biggest post on WW. If it does all those who have uninstalled it let me save you some time: [toolbar.google.com...]

Ok this is not funny anymore. I could care less about the toolbar from a webmastering standpoint.

I do miss it as a surfer. I like to know if a site or blog is popular that I am reading. Seeing the little greenguy also gave me a sense of comfort that others respect the information or opinion of the webmaster.

Does Yahoo still have webrank or whatever it is called?

Some more speculation, anyone?

Some large corporation filed a patent and copyrighted green?

Pass the Dutchie
If I follow your link and select view all (Features)
it will show a PR Bar
So what's new?

I was away for a few days
So are we commenting on a new toolbar as per that link
But if so the new one has also a PR bar
Therefore I guess we still do not know how the real final one will look
Correct?

I heard it's over the word "Toolbar." I think that Microsoft's got that one. Insiders tell me that the next version will be called the GoogleBar.

I also heard that Google didn't like the fact that the bar was only green. I've heard the next version is going be a continuous spectrum from white to black. Then Google's going after anyone using their colors! All 32 billion!

Did it come back that time with a major PR update, or was it mostly unchanged?

It was years ago, and I've poured through my past business journals and I didn't mention anything about it, just going on memory here. Sorry, can't remember specifics.

seriously PR is silly its the whats in the logs that count

I completely agree with you here, but the unfortunate issue is that most webmasters have "PR" on the brain and that's all they care about. Until their mindset changes, we have to keep feeding them what they want to get what we want.

...losing $10,000 on a adwords campaign when a affiliate cancled my account and never paid me on the proceeds

Kevin, the affiliate veterans here, including myself, have all been where you are now at some point in our respective careers. We have all gotten the shaft from an advertiser, and the money is always substantial. Just remember that you delivered because of your talent and you can do it again. Focus on what you do well, not on what didn't. You don't have to lose your condo. You have the talent to make $10k in two weeks, if needed, and you need it right now.

Write out your objectives and your plan of action, turn off the cell phone and other distractions and get to work and it will happen for you. This is how I got out of my situation, and I am sure others will have similar stories. You just have to change the negative self-talk into positive and then get the work done.

I wish you well on your return!
