I am seeing no backlinks for yahoo or dmoz on www2 or www3, also serps are changing. Is this it?

Every time I see that chart that Brett did I have to admire a really nice job.

So it looks like we had a "rare" Saturday update, only two previously in recent history. Now we need an ultra rare Tuesday update to round out the statistics :)

I guess its impossible to use things like the "wayback machine" to figure out Google activity in earlier years eh? It's something you have to observe in real-time or its all just a guess otherwise?

Maybe oneday there will be an ex-google employee who can give us deeper insights into their past. I know more was learned (and hacked) about AOL with ex-employee than was ever learned before about their internal structure.

Is anyone watching the 2003 Google wishlist to see if they are headed towards any of that?

Missed it again, I was expecting a later update due to the late december update.

Hit number 1 for my main term. PageRank up from 5 to 6, backlinks from 110 to 220.

To say I'm pleased would be a massive understatement.

Yahoo seems to be live to the update. It looks like AOL wants it to be finished before showing.

How long does it take for your DMOZ lsting to appear in the Category listing of Google. My redesign is coming up much better on WWW2server but it does not show backlinks or the category from ODP yet. ANy thoughts? Thanks.

Looks like ... no deepcrawl yet?! anyone seeing it.

For Some of my site(s) ... toolbar indication is in and out!
Also only a few pages are crawled although all the pages are interlinked properly.

One of my forums, only static pages are indexed but not the forum pages, the forum script is written in cgi...but none of the pages are indexed which are a part of forum?!
Is there any changed criteria for google to index forum pages?

First of all, as this is my first post, I'd just like to say thanks to all the contributors to this forum for the great help and advice I've read since joining.

A quick question. During this update, a search of my back links shows that Google seems to have dropped all internal links (ie searching using the link: command on www gives all links including internal, whereas on www2 and www3 it anly counts and lists external) Is this a change in Google's methods or merely part of the update process?

It might be that your PR has dropped below the threshold, around PR4.

Markus, even worse, I missed the existance of www-cw :), I really have missed a lot this month, that'll teach me to find time to visit ww, when did www-cw appear?

Thanks for the welcome and the info MIS. My main page has a PR of 6, deeper content ranges from 2 to 4. If the threshold is 4, shouldn't links from tose pages with 4 or higher be counted?

MIS, I can see www resolve to www-cw's IP address on Jan 3 for the first time. But it's probably there for quite some time now (tests etc.).

kwburke, the Google Directory uses the Open Directory RDF dump which has had problems. Once you're in the Open Directory though, the link from the DMoz.org should be credited after one or two updates.

Made In Sheffield and ideavirus, for the sites we host the deep crawl started for PR7 sites about 72 hours after the previous update began, then a little later for lower PR sites.

ideavirus, the Toolbar is prone to switch back and forth for a few days during the update, (hence the term 'Google Dance'). You might like to start a thread about cgi indexing after things settle.

Jon_King, you can put the link posted by getvisibleuk in your hosts file in Windows, or in your named config if you're on Linux.

Thanks ciml. None of the internal links are listed. The main page (PR 6) has links on it to pages with a PR 4. And those pages link back to the main page. So I would have thought that these should be listed.

On a separate question - does Google 'edit' dmoz categories? I only ask because I've had a dmoz listing since November but so far nothing in Google Directory.

Kennyh, I suggest you let the update settle and then start a thread. If there are two PR4 or higher pages, and one links to the other, then the backlink would normally show.

kennyh - no, Google doesn't edit dmoz categories other than ordering sites by pagerank. However, due to ongoing problems with dmoz producing a valid RDF dump, the current Google Directory is only valid as of late September. Any modifications to dmoz made since then have not yet made it through to the Google Directory. When the RDF problem is solved then expect your site to show up in the Google Directory within one or two updates. Search the forums for RDF dump to read more about this problem - it's been discussed extensively. :)

Not one change on a single site, and they've all been doing so well on the up and up every month but this update? OK at least the PR & SERP's haven't gone > but no change at all on any site. Is anyone one else in the same situation? I can feel the paranoia setting in.

1-when I run a searc report to see my listing with all search engines,I see like googles e.g 11 listings. but when I click on googles to see the pages they i don't see any of the pages. I check hotbot for the same listings for google i see all the pages.Do you have any idea why this happening.
2-my PR is also different from where i search for my site from. When I go to ask.com and search my site and click on result, it gives me a pr of 7/10. But when I enter my url on google site and click on the link it gives me different pr. any one knows why?

One more question, when one views the new database on www2 or 3, would these rankings reflect the unknown PR to come?

In other words you could make a guess at the eventual PR by knowing the category well enough to predict what PR is needed for what rank?

admittedly i have not read all replies in this thread, so sorry if this has came up before...checking the update, i am getting different results on different pc's, checking at exatly the same time. In one result i am wiped out, in another one page 2....how to know what is real?

You're just seeing the two different indexes, old and new. To see the new for certain search on www2.google.com until you see posts that the update is over.

that's what i am doing...
like i said, i have done a search on www2.google.com, as well as www3.google.com,on 2 pc's that are located next to eachother...doing the same search at exactly the same time, i get different results on each pc. I am aware of 2google and 3google, but have never seen different results on different pc's....
