I've been checking google uk every few minutes since sunday to see if it's updated to reflect the .com positions. I'm getting a little anxious!

"like i said, i have done a search on www2.google.com"

You didn't actually say you were doing it on www2, check your post. It might be that fresh listing are causing the anomolies in the results.

Try a link: check and you should find it's consistent on both PCs on www2 and www3.

Looks like www-va is done so only 2 data centers to go now:

www-cw
www-in

2 thirds of the way done.

I also have the problem mentioned above - Google has not correctly identified the location of my (UK-based) web server, and so it looks like I will no longer show up in .co.uk searches, which is pretty frustrating seeing as this could well be my most targeted traffic.

Anyone else have this problem? I know it was mentioned elsewhere on the forums, but it looks like Google has changed it's method of finding locations again. I also know another host who was having this problem a few weeks ago.

(By the way, add the string

&meta=cr%3DcountryUK%7CcountryGB

to the url (in the address bar) of www3.google.com searches to preview google.co.uk results)

I am hopeing that it's just the .co.uk database has not been fully updated.

I would expect google to update the .com first.

ha ha

Just found that one -- got the old parania going again.

<<Chiyo

1. Your competitors got better

OR

2. You forgot to update! Google loves new content and new pages. We note our fresh pages get a boost for 3 months or so. Stale old pages tend to stay the same or go down slowly.>>

No change in all but one (that's down one PR) and an ex client's site plummeting into obscurity -- amazing even though they got some free advice -- of to Foo to have a rant.

I've been doing that and it shows the same results that google.co.uk is showing now anyway.

The problem is .com shows one of my words at the top of page one but .co.uk shows it on page 2. I've been told that the .co.uk will update and show the new positions but it's bad on the nerves and I can understand why it doesn't show by following the process you've just described.

For what it's worth, this has been another boring update for me. A church site that I maintain dropped from a PR-5 to a PR-3 but, since it's one of only two churches in the area with a web site, that's not a major problem, and no problem to me personally. It opened with a PR-5 for no reason that I could figure out, so a PR-3 is probably more reasonable given its youth and lack of a large number of back links. No change in the SERPs.

None of my other sites appear to have changed one bit, in PR or in the SERPs. I was really hoping that one, in particular, would move from a PR-5 to a PR-6, as it has more than doubled its back links, but it's still number 2 in the SERPs for the most logical key phrase, so there's no real problem there either.

Ecstatic would be nice, but I'd rather be bored than suicidal.

I've defintely got all non UK-specific domains removed from the .co.uk database - Google has mis-identified my server as being outside the UK - even though every other IP to location method I use identifies this correctly. So, unless my site has a .co.uk .org.uk wtc domain name, I only show up on worldwide results.

I really hope Google will review their location thingy because it's pretty depressing to suddenly drop from results because the location was wrong.

As I asked before, anyone else have this problem? I'm kinda hoping it will be widespread because then Google might look into it.

I have noticed that all of my UK based websites with .biz or .com suffix are still apearing in the UK results. Sorry, looks like it might be a one off glitch that should put itself right with time.

my .info results are still correctly showing as .uk but not in their correct positions

I'm pretty sure it comes down to servers - I have a .net site hosted on an alternative server, but this is still in the regional results. Every .com/.net/.org on the other server only shows in .com results whereas .co.uk still shows.

My conclusion - Google thinks the server is outside the UK, but UK specific domain names get put in the regional database regardless. As I mentioned above, I know a small hosting company in the UK who are also experiencing this bug - 3 months ago they were in .co.uk results, they changed server and haven't been listed since.

my .co.uk sites were showing up on google.c.uk about 2 hours ago but they are not now.

I am showing up under uk on yahoo and freeserve.

I hope it all pans out soon as I am now more confused than ever.

has anybody heard any thing from google about this?

according to google-dance dot com my site (and I am sure other in here) shows up in all data centers but one.

Woo hoo :)

After the dance this weekend we've been getting our first real traffic, and today we got our first real transaction (did have a couple the other week, but that was from a friend who works for the local-competition ;) ) ...

Thankyou google! .. and really enjoyed watching my first dance!

ATB,

:)

PS. Is google still dancing?

One of our sites just dropped out of www. still in www2 and www3? (well - back to how it was last week at least ... )

I have noticed this also today. It looks like www is back to the old index. www2 and www3 still are showing the new results, I think it is still just settling in.....

when will this thing ever end? I get different results from coast to coast with some friends checking the same sites of ours on www, www2, www3.
Seems like it's a longer indexing this month for sure. A friend at Yahoo told me it may be longer this time due to the virus/worm that is still bogging down servers across the US and other major countries.

Overall, when this thing settles down though, I think we'll have some new sites going from a PR 0 or 1 to a PR of 5 to 7 initially. Gotten tons of leads just in the last day or so from customers finding the (unresolved) keywords in which our business supplies services.

I wish it would stop already though :¦

crumpeta, thanks for the info. I read the discussion about your site. However, there is no 'redirect page' for any of my affiliates. We have flash banners or text links or gif images, the underlying link for each being something of the nature:
[mydomainname.com...]
and this leads directly to our homepage without a redirect through another server or page.

The Affiliate ID that Google is using is invalid and I can't find any affiliate who is using their affiliate ID incorrectly so I am really flummoxed about where Google got this Affiliate ID from.

All other affiliate links (as well as our real URL) seem to have been resolved (merged?) into this one URL.

Do I write to Google about this once the update is over?

That's what I thought, Noximus, but the www server has been coming and going all morning. I'll be #1 one minute, and non-existent the next minute. On www2 and www3, I'm #1. I'll be so happy when Google runs out of breath and stops dancing...

My listings are now the same on .com as for www2 and www3

The .uk listings are still completely different. Can anyone confirm if they will be updated to reflect the same order and how much longer that is likely to take?

www-in has had the new index for some hours. Waiting for www-cw to get updated. Until then SERPs on www may still be expected to fluctuate. Same goes for PR.

As usual a number of new members have arrived in the dance thread. In the middle of a general confusion not all have been properly welcomed by someone. I hope you will all feel welcome here at WebmasterWorld. It's a marvelous resource. As you may already have seen we have many very competent members and there is a great level of willingness to help each other. Welcome.
