However, if you add to KWD also having the keyword in the domain name, or second best the URL, it does seem to help quite a bit.
I'm sure KWD has an effect. What GG was pointing out is that it's incorrect to think that the higher your KWD, the better your ranking will be. It's likely that there is some kind of bell curve, and the further you get from the sweet spot -- in either direction -- the worse it is for you.
I haven't confirmed this by experiment, but a site above mine with unusually high KWD ranks lower than I would expect given its PR. Mind you, so does mine, and I have a KWD that's average for my top 10.
I hope europeforvisitors is correct, and that good content is all it takes, but that hasn't been working out for me and so I'm experimenting with various factors (including KWD) to find why sites with less relevant content and lower PR are ranking above mine.

I hope they do have such methods in place, and it would be nice if they put them to better use. I still see a lot of high-ranking pages (highly competitive categories with hundreds of thousands or millions of results returned) where the snippets show nonsense keyword-stuffed text. Even Shakespeare can write better than that. ;) Things will improve over time, I would guess.

Gone again! Back to square one! If I didn't have the evidence of the stats I would think I imagined it.
There is one SERP that has existed on Google for like a year that is totally bizarre to me. There is a certain page that always comes up in the top 20. Top 10 this dance. This page has a PR of 3, and is on a minor site on a free host that has been ignored for years. For a single keyword it is #6 on Google, has a low density for that keyword, and only has 6 instances of that keyword on the page. If only I could figure out what this page was doing right. ;)

But a whole LOT of it disappeared overnight. I wouldn't have such a problem with that particular spam if the sites even redirected to something on topic, but to just throw something up and hope it sticks...annoying.
Buddhist festivals tend to be lunar, which has a certain appeal.
Wesak (anniversary of the Buddha's awakening) is the Full Moon in May.
Dhammacakka Day (anniversary of first teaching) is the full moon in July.
Parinirvana Day (anniversary of the Buddha's death) February 15 (not lunar)
Plus, of course, January 4, which is my birthday :)
HarryM - You will see alot of shuffling around, typically for the most part, what you see in the beginning is how the dance ends. I do see them doing some manual adjusting I think, as last month for a certain product, I was ranked numbero uno :) :) and the manufacturer was ranked like number four or something, now they put the manufacturer ranked number one and I am like number 4 or 5.

I see little changes anyway. To be honest, I think google just played with the link pop numbers to make it look like they updated while they were really celebrating the holidays ;)
this is my first anniversary of google updates. I think im gonna celebrate by making some sneaky redirects and doorway pages :)
GG, considering how closely updates are followed, I suggest that you use their timing to spread awareness about endangered species of animals & plants! There must be days at month end/begining that are dedicated to various animals/plants.
26th January is also "Australia Day" so that sounds like an obvious choice for the next update.
Better get your skates on GG.
