I work in the adult industry and I am seeing a TOOON of .info and .biz BS spam pages same as that thread a month ago about that guy spamming with .biz and .info domains.
Either Googleguy is at the bottom of food chain or this is not what the update will look like - but some of it will for sure.
No-one has mentioned that some results pages have 2 or 3 links in very small print just above the main results; prefixed with News: and pointing to several topical news sites with a story on that subject. I haven't noticed this before (but may have missed it).
Site B is now in sj to the tune of several hundred pages. Site A only has one page, the homepage.
My results corroborate the theory that it's an older database with freshbot data.
Here is a question. I exprected to be doing better this update for my kw's - based on more links and better onpage optimization.
I see in sj- that I have moved from 61 to 13 for example - if this is indeed old data + freshbot activity (my page title seems old) does this mean once the update happens I should look forward to better listings than what I see now in sj- or worse?
Also a new site I have been building - this is the second update it will see and it has a ton of backlinks and is showing up from nowhere to #10 in it's keywords - no big surprise but it sj - shows that it has zero backlinks :(
Also I see a lot of pr4+ backlinks showing from my other site - I KNOW I have backlinks from at least 10 pr5 sites that were definitely deepcrawled and yet they don't show up...
Also how do you check the PR that sj- is showing - what do I need to do where to make that happen - thanks.
viva la googla
my page title seems old
You have a point jojo. I was assuming SJ was an old index mixed with fresh activity. However, my title is neither the one from the old index nor my latest. If I didn't change the title so often I'd swear it was the one in place during the last deepcrawl.
This isn't as fun as the dance, but it is quite amusing!
This is what has happened to my sites -
- 2 new sites with a few backlink have shown up on sj. They arnt showing up anywhere else and the bar is still grey.
- The older sites are showing last months backlinks.
So I guess I agree with people who have said its showing old data along with the freshbot data.
Vishal.
I don't agree that the dance is a zero sum game in regards to webmasters here at WW. All of the webmasters in the top 10 for serps do not frequent this board, and those of us that do are generally more informed and less likely to use spammy techniques.....thus I think the more griping the worse the update.....
Yes....there is always some griping......but there are different levels of it, and are some people on this site with more credibility than others.
Everyone claims there is a balance between celebraters and whiners during an update, but I honestly think that GG and the rest of the G staff value the opinion of the webmasters here much more than the average schlub whether they care to admit or not.
WW webmasters are generally more informed, and most likely looked to as leaders in regards to computers in their ring of peers, thus our opinions are quite important, and if you look carefully at each update, I'm sure you would be able to see that it is generally newer members who are complaining, and the well-informed people just sit back and enjoy the ride by learning from mistakes and changes.
Just my .02
Don't whine about it.....learn from it, and help improve it. We sometimes take for granted what a wonderful service google has worked very hard to provide. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Google Guy, and wipe the brown off my nose.
Actually, some of the best informed people *are* the spammers. That's why they're good at what they do. The good ones know way more than a lot of us.
At some point Google is going to be integrating fresh results into the index and updating PR on the fly eliminating the need for a monthly update.
www-sj is testing some portion of this process which would explain the old 'stale' serps mixed with the brand new recently crawled pages that make this curious index.
My 2 cents.
My home page is from when it was deep crawled for sure 2 weeks ago. However I get fresh botted daily, so for the key words that my home page takes care of, I cant really say how I will rank, except for how im ranking now. On -SJ my home page key words, are a tad better, up a few positions.
Now I had 30 static pages that havent been on google, but I noticed they were deep crawled 2 weeks ago, and sure enough all of them are at -SJ with 2 week old stuff on them. And for 20 of them the keywords, I take #1 , the rest are #3-#7 . Which is fine, I have allready updated them with more optimization, they will snag #1 from my un attentative competitors ;)
So to me, who knows FOR SURE my 2 week old deep crawl is at -sj right now. I say the data is from the latest crawl(within 3 weeks ago till now) and there is NO Freshbot data.
Now this is MY take on it, because of my results on my site. My pages including the ones that get fresh boted daily are 2 weeks old, and are deep crawl data.
I am working harder than any SEO in the world to make it to the top pages for my major search term. (giggle)
On the regular google.com I am on page 5
On the [www-sj.google.com...] server I am now on page three
I have never been this high up (page 3) on my term, I have one of the top 10 most competitive terms on the entire net.
This tells me a thing or two...
1) This [www-sj.google.com...] server is doing some new stuff.
2) The data must be for a new indexing to go live I think soon.
This may be a test but there is more (maybe) to this than meets the eye.
I may be wrong but a top position on page 3 would be very very nice, I almost do not want to make it to page 2 as I would suffer from attack full force from competition of many of the best webmasters for sure.
So.... something is up here
Im new to all the seo stuff, but I sure as hell enjoy it when I "sneak on in there" outa know where snagging #1, on my easier key words.
But I have a major keyword, on all search engines,im on page 6/5 bounces a bit. On -sj its on 3, but Im taking that with a grain of salt!
But Im going for page 1, fear none my friend, ATTACK!
ps I dont know if your working harding then me man ;)

This statement has implications for the convergence rate of the standard PageRank algorithm as the web scales, for the stability of PageRank to perturbations to the link structure of the web, for the detection of Google spammers, and for the design of algorithms to speed up PageRank.
Joking aside, it is different, soon and incoherent enough to be some kind of testing ground.
