I'm seeing live Brandy results now

Is this across the board?

I am finally seeing the Brandy index in the regular SERPS. Is this the real deal or is it still cycling?

Thanks, SyntheticUpper. I'll be checking for your nickname and pass it on to our crawl team to see if we're not canonicalizing your site right (www vs. non-www). If anyone else sees any problems like that with their site, feel free to write us too with the keyword urlcanonicalization. I mentioned this a while ago and I know that at least 2-3 people wrote with feedback using the keyword urlcanonicalization before. I'll pass them all on to our crawl team.

216.239.33.102? If folks are checking 216.239.33.102, they should walk away from the computer right now and spend their weekend doing something else. :) 216.239.33.102 has been out of the DNS rotation for a while now. There's nothing to see there but machines scheduled to go away in a week or so. Don't waste your time thinking/worrying about it--promise. :)

Hey GoogleGuy,

Is there any chance we will see the original 64.**** results we first saw about a week ago?

More Traffic Please, please send me an email/spam report with the keyword changefrom64 if you want to highlight a search that isn't what you expected based on doing your searches on 64. I'll be happy to check it or pass it on.

best,
GG

but GG....the live serps are identical (almost :-)) to the 216 before the great 64 results. This isnt the 64 that we all saw originally.

And now 216.239.33.102 is showing the same results as everything else.

Thanks Sid. What makes this most disheartening is that I spent a week redoing my site, released it last Saturday, sales went way up for 2 days, and then this happened.

At least it forced me to write a much better site, I suppose. The big hope is that Google hasn't noticed the changes yet, except for the front page, and that the changes will pay off in a couple of weeks ... will keep working on it in the meantime.

soapystar, I could agree or differ with you if you sent me specifics so I could look at them. I just checked right now, and so far no one has sent me any reports with the keyword changefrom64. :) I've done 4-5 searches and they returned 64 results, but I'm happy to hear of examples to check out. But for you and I to stay in this forum and discuss 64 or 216 (esp. after I've just said that 216.239.33.102 is going away soon), is a little like Bugs Bunny and Daffy going back and forth: "Duck season! Rabbit season! Duck season!", except without specific words duck and rabbit. So you've just said "Widget season!" and I don't even know what the reply is unless I at least know what terms we're talking about. :)

Added: Not that I'm calling you daffy. :) You can be Bugs if you want--I just don't know which keywords you're talking about.

Googleguy, are sites that mascarade as directories with no content and just 15 to 20 affiliate links per page + description, spam? I'm not so sure anymore because i see many of them running adsense.

Funny,

I just did a search for info on the Atkins diet and I was quickly introduced to optimiztion 101.

The top position was held by www.domain.com/atkins_diet/atkins_diet.html
and anything else I thought of where also in a similar page but all the keywords in the url.

Of course I am now on my way to the book store because i got fed up with the inability to find info on the most famous diet and subject in the world.

If it works I am happy to do this for my own site hoping I can give real content after they get through the lead-in pages...but I must say the problem is not my site the problem is google...and yahoo is equally as crappy.

My own databased website got hammered with brandy...because who knows why, maybe the 3 writers I have on staff went to the school to study english not the repitition of keywords in the head body and text. Maybe they forgot to redo the page in a static folder with every varation of keywords in the url that someone may think of.

Maybe google decided that a dynamic url re-written to simple one word urls is no longer ok.

Or maybe google is just full of crap!

This is my first post and I just sent a spam report to GoogleGuy.

Just wanted to let everyone else also know that there are sites with PR8, which have Hidden Text and Doorway pages. The doorway page's URL is listed as hidden text.

Does Google has an automated way to find hidden text and doorway pages or they are only detected if someone reports them?

I was VERY surprised to see that hidden link and doorway page on the PR8 site (I visited the site to see how they have managed to get 250,000 pages indexed, so I can use similar methods), but I was even more surprised to see that Google has not detected it.

GoogleGuy, I have sent a report via spam reporting web page and have included UpdateBrandy as the first line.

Thanks
Chester

I have one question.

Is on-topic and good content really important these days? Well of course it's important to the surfers who want it but not it seems to 95-100% of the SE's.

A tweaker with little or no content can beat anyone who's old fashioned and niave enough to think that the internet is/was about information, not links and tricks.

GoogleGuy,

I think you're fighting a losing battle. Now that everyone is checking all the datacenter addresses, the questions are not going to stop until searches return the same results from all the centers or at least from the centers feeding www.

I see slight variations in results in my sector in a normal search, but those from 64 specifically have remained steady. There are a few sites in my searches that don't belong, but I think I'll wait until this is all over before making any reports. Many others were gone when 64 came out. I believe we all need to wait until the dust has settled before throwing in the towel.

One question for GoogleGuy. How long after 64 has stabalized accross the centers will newly indexed pages hit the centers. Googlebot was on my site for a week the first of February. Wonder when those new pages will hit.

Thanks everybody. I'm heading into work and will check out a few when I get in, and ask someone to make sure that we check them all out on Monday. chester, I would call that more a site map than doorway pages, but I agree about the hidden links. Looks like 4 deliberate hidden links on an otherwise good site; I'll request some action on it though.

GoogleGuy,

Just a heads-up. I have just sent an update email concerning my original brandyupdate spam report of several days ago. Unlike my original email, this one contains my WebmasterWorld / SearchEngineWorld nickname.

GG, some people seem to be suggesteing something else, but what I see is that the current results are just a bit weaker than the 64 results. It would be hard to actually send a report on it though. Relevant sites still seem in the top twenty, but they have moved around somewhat, and in general lightweight ones seem to have moved up. For example, the not-very-relevant keyword.com moved from about #8 to now #3.

A report that says "#6 moved to #4". By itself that is trivial, but it seems to have occured a lot of places.

===

Just I'm typing significant move in the serps...

Thanks for a quick feedback GoogleGuy. That was very fast. Yes, the site is otherwise good, but this is a trick which should somehow be auto detected.

Have a good weekend.
