Because there has never been such dissatisfaction with an update before. Usually, half like it, and half don't. In this case, the overwhelming majority dislike what they see on -sj.
Which in my opinion is the moot point. SJ = new algo using incomplete 'data' (presumably links).
If that IS the case, I think eveyone can calm down and wait. It follows the logic of earlier GG posts.

GG, your efforts here are appreciated by everyone, thanks, but man, there has to be a better way of adding new pages and calculating serp's. This way lies madness :)
On the SJ index my yahoo backlinks all vanished from the yahoo directory, ODP etc, i also have several PR7 backlinks that aren't showing up. All in all i went from 26 good backlinks to 1, and this month i should have at least 50. I also had 800 pages crawled in march with the deepcrawl and 1500 pages in april, but in the SJ index i only have 300 some pages.
Also if you look at SERPS for my sites name and view results 160-390 all you see are pages and pages of links with no descriptions in the serps, i've never seen that happen before?
Markus
mcavic, I think I did say that newer backlinks and spam snapshots would be pending to be applied over time. Or at least I tried to. :)
BUT.
Does that mean they simply aren't showing up, but are factored into the algorithm already?
OR...
As all the actual backlinks kick in, the PR factor/anchor text on link would change the SERP's?
All is cool with me and mine on SJ. I got a client from #34 on 'industry name' to #11 in SJ using all valid stuff.
And...all the links that we got for their site hasn't been factored yet.
Meaning, if they went from #34 to #11 and the additional links/anchor text has NOT yet been applied to the algo- it should go up a bit as the links are applied.
Must admit- I can't really figure what is up with this algo tweak.
I spot perhaps a different KWD sweet spot.?
As G is using another page for a SERP my client site was at #3 for now at #11 and #12 using a totally different page I didn't optimize for that phrase.
Odd stuff Google. You're gonna give the GoogleNews forum a bazillion posts on this update alone.
AW (happy I have not been reamed)
Just hope there is less spam in it :)
People that have knocked me down also have lots of guestbook links too. But the problem is, some only have guestbooks, so I'm not sure about the comment about you guys ignoring it yet.
I think 2 of the main changes in this algo are...
1) inbound links need to be more focused.... like 50 links all using different link text no longer work well for all different keyword phrases. but if you have 50 links all with the same link text, it is more effective, which I guess makes sense since it tends to be more on topic
2) on page factors count for more now, like title and kw density.
As for your new spam technologies, I hope they are very effective :)
Thank you for the last post.
If this is partial data, which are used - then I'm very satisfied with the new also and eager to see it live ... as I have web sites, which are completely indexed in the -sj and they are doing more then fine :) However the sites, which has just some part of backlinks in -sj ... doing very bad, as you guess.
SJ is destined to change before it is widespread. Missing data will be added, which WILL have an impact on the results (remember: results = algo + data).
The data will be updated which will restore many of the links to the quality sites. The quality sites will thus climb to more appropriate positions with respect to the lesser quality sites.
Just give it time and wait.
For all anyone knows this is PRECISELY what normally happens behind the curtains. Come on... relax and wait.. change is afoot.
Not necessarily,
If they are only testing right now for on page factors, such as hidden text etc, then the backlinks wouldn’t make a difference.
They will probably phase those in with some other type of filter and then we will see the results sway again.
After reading GG's post, I think he is trying to tell us all to in a round about way to wait. This new algo change is going to be sweeping and they are trying to implement slowly so as not to kill good resources by accident.
I think, instead of getting all worked up about my links disappearing, I’m just going to go about working on my site and wait and see what happens.
I do have faith that Google does know what their doing and in the long run the SERPs will really benefit from this.

I tried to shout this out loud a couple of times and it simply doesn't work :)
Anyway, it is a lovely sunset out there and I am going for a beer down the beach :)
Anyone to join?
If we do bad after the update, well, another 20k will go in adwords :)
if we do well, another 20k might go in beer :)
so all I can do is wait.
See you folks.
I don't think the order is that big a deal as it is temporary... I certainly think it WILL serve to create a few giant threads on here though. I hope Brett has his bandwidth allocation in place!
anybody else see this:
My site has been crawled nicely when checking sj, but
unfortunately a lot of pages do not have a cached version.
The results just show the URL; so no keywords indexed for
these pages. In the last two updates everything was allright?
Hopefully this eill change during the new update...
Ideas, anyone?
Regards,
mauijaws
PS: Might be a dumb question. Might be happened before, but
I have never seen this... but hey, its my first post. I am a
stupid newbie. I am allowed to do this ;-)
He basically summed up what the sj results are. Sj is showing a new index that just isn't complete YET. Soon though, it will be. Until then, save Brett some money and go take a break. The "sky" can't be "falling" yet until the actual full, complete, and final update happens. Then by all means, let the sky fall if you must. Googleguy loves that part. =]
