When pinging www.google.com it then refers to "pinging www.google.akadns.net" (note aka dns).
I get the same results with .nl,.be,.de,.at,.fr,.ch,.it,.ca. That is as far as I went.
This is where the random redirect to the 5 different IP addresses takes place.

The five different servers are...
216.239.37.147
216.239.37.99
216.239.39.99
216.239.37.104
216.239.41.99

SO, when going to www.google.com (today) you will be sent to one of the 5 IP addresses above for your results. This is a "random" redirect. Any fluctuation you see is a difference between those servers.

If you do not wish to be redirected you can go directly to any of the above by entering is [216.239.xx.xx...]

NOTE:pinging US servers/datacenters does NOT refer to .akadns.net

Would AOL really allow G to test serps as part of the their service level agreement?

Possibly. Particularly if Google called this test just the "new index", and gave AOL a crack at it first. If you think about it, if Google is showing its latest, improved index on google.com, and AOL is fed the old index, this would mean Google would be competing with AOL, and keeping the good results for themselves. Now if Google were to feed AOL SERPs that AOL felt were inferior, AOL likely would take its business elsewhere.

So what's the verdict? False alarm?

I saw the new serps on AOL and on two Google data centers mentioned above. But I never saw the new results live on www (in No Cal). I have been tracking since the beginning of this thread.

Go to google.com and keep refreshing the page until the different serps show up. It works. They're there.

>>It works. They're there

yes, but remember that this filter is being rolled out on a selective basis. even if you keep refreshing there may be no difference in the serps you watch. this however, does not mean we are not seeing the further staged roll out of a highly selective florida filter. we are. and its clear to many of us.

For 3 of my domains I see a huge increase in google images traffic in my TSELA stats - mainly from images.google.com and the .uk images.google

"Whether they move permanently to all the google datacenters and to google.com is the issue."

I believe that you'll probably see this change move to most/all datacenters pretty soon.

...sounds good to me, I like those results so I must be a minority... or just plain lucky?

It looks to me like it was the 10% is what has moved over. Not a huge difference at all but I think the 90% was slightly better.

I'm not a religious google watcher, but I've noticed serps for the keywords I watch the most changing for at least a week. I often notice different results from different machines/isps while this is going on too. Every time they've ever done it before it's been a regular update, so...

Personally I moved from #8 to #3 for my main keyword (pair), but if they woulda quit a couple days ago I was at 2nd.

But for my particular keyword, My site really should be 3rd and for the first time EVER, google has the right three sites for that keyword pair AND has them in the right order.

>Now Brett, can you open another thread where people talk about the good and bad, etc., now that we know these are the future.

That would basically be my "SERIOUS algo analysis" thread I have started after other updates. However, before doing that I would like to be sure the update is really over, and not still a work in progress. IOW, if this is a Google Dance, then there might still be some dancing left to be done. If so, analysis is premature.

>>certain algo elements haven't been factored in yet

hence why we are seeing differing results still on 216.239.37.99?

Well, I skipped from about page 5 of posts to here.

Going live? I am seeing some movement on several search terms that I track. But, I saw movement at least two days ago. Mostly nothing huge, but a few sites have left the top 10-20 (not mine, so I didn't track them down).

I am seeing differences between a standard Google search (i.e. not defining the data center) and what is returning on Yahoo - and no I am not seeing Ink on Yahoo, but rather something very close to the 216.239.37.99 results.

Liane, themes might be important, but pyramid explains the strength of a well themed site's index page better, IMHO.

The new results are showing up in Hong Kong now both for the English language option on Google Hong Kong and the "Go To Google.com" setting.

I gathered that this topic is about whether or not an update is underway? Or at least that is what most of the people posting in this topic seem to be asking?

I wouldn't know except for the fact that I've seen several of my own sites jumping around in the serps for several different keywords at least since last sunday. I don't really track any other sites as to their position in google... just the ones I'm responsible for. Mainly I check www regularly from 4 different machines using 3 different ISP's - all in the southern US.

And.. since one of my sites has been 9th, 2nd, 8th, 2nd AND 3rd, 5th, 4th, and now 3rd again... in the past WEEK... I'd say heck yeah they are doing an update, and you can tell it by looking at www from here.

>I gathered that this topic is about whether or not an update is underway? Or at least that is what most of the people posting in this topic seem to be asking?

GoogleGuy in post #160 confirmed this is indeed an update. The open question now is whether this is a dance in progress, or these are the final SERPs, and they just have to move to the other datacenters? I remember one update where I thought it was over, as the new results were on almost all the datacenters. However, at the last moment before the dance ended, some SERPs changed dramatically. Thus, I'd say that until this index is on all the datacenters, don't assume these results are final.

A while back the 'old' Google Update rollouts often occured around holiday weekends - and Jan 25th is Burns Day (Scotland) and Jan 26th is Australia Day.

Hey GG - pretty multicultural of you!

I'm seeing shifts in www from Florida, USA.

Whether it's a dance on www I don't know (hard to tell). But the dance usually took place behind the scenes before going to www didn't it?

I really need to go ahead and shell out some money so I don't have to dig for good info.

>>Hey GG - pretty multicultural of you! >

Chris_D, just to throw another billion or so people into the equation, it's also Lunar New Year in Asia this weekend.

The theory of updates being done wnen traffic will be significantly down seems to have a lot of weight.

I do not see any changes here in germany both with .99 and .de, but perhaps I am using the wrong NC search terms.

For awhile .it, .es and .fr were showing the new results, while .de was not.

But now for me .de is showing the new results.

Can anyone tell me what [216.239.37.9...] is? Checking our ranking there sees us switch between page 2,3 and 5 every few minutes......
