i am still to understand why all the suspense about the google update on a monthly basis. chances are, they won't take as long as 2 months between updates, so meantime, i just sit back and wait .. no big deal if its plus or minus a week or two. just relax. it will happen when it happens :)

He did tell us when it will occure.

::::I think y'all are worrying far too early. You've got to remember that the update earlier this month was just a little while ago. I wouldn't start worrying about an update yet.

At [google.com...] it says
'We update our index every four weeks.'

The last update was on March 6th, so if Google is correct, the next dance will start on the third of this month at 7:38 PM PST.

The google dance reminds me musical chairs. Every month someone is left without a chair and everyone dances around anxiously around the music.

So much for the dance being "back on schedule".

Only if they don't do the dance until after the 3rd will they be late again. If they do it before that day, then the dance will be early.

Has the time not come for an update forum? Do we really have to wait til the end of the month before we can start discussing why the update hasnt stated? lets start the update fourum thread update update. Does that make sense?

Well, there is a forum here just for the toolbar. ;)

The update isn't due until the 3rd. Google claims to update every four weeks.

A board covering just the dance would be dead half the time. A board that covered both the dance and the deepcrawl would be good!

A forum covering it would be moderation heavy. 50% of the people wouldn't get the distinction between the forums. Alot of them don't get the difference between AdWords, Toolbar, and Google News as it is now.

So i'm all ready to scream *update* because i do a dance search on a search term and like the index is completely different. Then it occurs to me that no one else has spotted this....hmm, fishy.....

Yeah, when I learn to spell my search terms correctly then I'll be able to tell if the update is really happening ;)....

until then, like many people who forsee and call the update on the basis of (a) missing googlebot, (b) minor index changes and (c) tea-leaves...I should keep my mouth shut!

I think GG has made the position clear.

Whilst I hope that I'm wrong, and that it comes a bit sooner, I think that its at least 5 days away.

Just a couple of days ago GG said

I think y'all are worrying far too early

Ya, they are busy doing their taxes. I wouldn't be surprised if it were as late as the 16th this month...

LOL, I think people may take it that you have an inside view Brett.

Not such a bad thing as it might even stop this thread dead in its tracks.

Ok, it wont, but we can hope can't we? :)

is anybody there? - it's the 3rd of the month, no update & this thread has dropped to the last third of the page!

oh my god - has everyone suddenly become sane & calm about update time? Has WW lost its entertainment value?

If people are anything like me, they got into such a state waiting for the last one that they took a course of therapy and are much more relaxed about this one. Which is why I'm not following this thread or posting to it. Oh, wait, hang on...

Too many webmasters watching too much CNN me thinks... maybe puts the update significance into perspective.

Nah, maybe folks are just thinking that:
ok, we missed a Feb. update and lived;
we had an early March update and lived;
we haven't seen the April update;
Gee, just like GoogleGuy said, not so long ago. Maybe he really does know about things more heady than the next cool logo change 8^)

So I'm thinking rather than everyone moving to freakville, a bunch of people went off to finish up some new pages.
After all, no Dance means more time before deepcrawl and that means more time for content.

-- Proud parent of 9 new pages and 12 revised pages
so far this week, with still more ariving before Sunday.

my problem is that i,ve done all my pre deep crawl homework - which i have never achieved before & now i'm borred...

I have two new client sites that should have their first results shown on this update & I feel like a 10 year old on xmas eve with a big tree full of presents i'm desperate to unwrap and i really don't want to get so borred that i start watching the news again - as thats far too depressing!

A few months ago, I was much more anxious waiting for the dances.
As time goes by, my sites move up the SERPs.

Today, I am in such a comfortable position that I would rather seeing the dance later than sooner.

Probably other people at WebmasterWorld are in similar positions.

but when you have new clients sites sites to launch each month you really need the update to see how things are panning out...

i guess G has just moved the time frame forward a week.

Mixed feelings for this update :)

The update reminds me of the movie 'The Jerk' when Steve Martin breathlessly rants:

"The new phonebook's here...The new phonebook's here...The new phonebook's here..."

At [google.com...] it says
'We update our index every four weeks.'

364 days / ( 4 x 7 days ) = 13!

If Google updates its index every four weeks, then there have to be 13+ updates a year.

Looking back at the past Google updates it looks more like Google updates once every month (they are even a little behind). Thus the update won't be due until the 5th I would say.

When I was young it was good getting a new phone book and checking if you were in it :)

Not now though :(

Six months or a year from now when my site is well established, I won't care much about the update myself. But at the moment, I run one web site that's about two months old. It's showing up reasonably well in the SERPs already, thanks to freshbot, but it's not "really" in Google's index yet. And I'm very curious to see what my initial PR is, because I don't have many links yet, but a few of them are from PR5 and 6 pages, so I'm hoping to do really well on this update. I'm looking forward to the update with all the nervousness of Christmastime. :)

Rhadamanthus,

I challenge you to come back here in 6 months to a year when your site is well-established and tell us that you don't care much about the update!

Are you saying that you're only a Google joy-popper? Morphine is not really addictive?
