Yesterday was easily my highest paying day of the month. Today (which finishes in 30 minutes) is easily my lowest. Same traffic, similar clicks.

I expect low numbers on a US holiday weekend, but once again the day was beyond believable.

I'm convinced one of three things is happening: 1) Adsense is losing data, 2) CPA ads are being mixed in or 3) something else I haven't thought of.

Either way *something* is happening, I don't believe this is just market fluctuation.

My saw blade has lost it's points over the last 4 days. Just bad all around and I don't understand what is happening. Traffic hasen't changed. and CTR is average, but CPC has hit an all time low. Dire days. :(

Except for the fact that it probably won't happen in our life time whilst the Adsense Apocalypse has already begun. [melodramatic, I know]

If the nukes are controlled by the Adsense team then we won't even get the traditional four minute warning. And afterwards, any unusual fallout fluctuations will be blamed on market conditions.

Google's Allies will suffer most from the famine created by the fallout, but that's just 'collateral damage'. The intended targets will be left unscathed.

May 2012 in like a lamb out like a lion, too late to save the month but earnings are way up. Set a record for the year yesterday but down about 40% from 2011 mainly due to lower CTR.

Nope, that's the very, very easy way. The hard way is to find out you have an incurable disease (not applicable to me, touch wood) with .... well, let's not go into detail, you get the picture.

My observations this month are that my main site has fallen significantly Adsense income wise but the site stays roughly the same in the SERPS. The other advertising income from the site has stayed steady, so from my perspective Adsense doesn't convert as well for that site as it previously did.

At the same time the smaller sites (keyword in the url sites) are performing better this month Adsense income wise.

I had close to my worst day in the past 5+ years yesterday. Can't blame it traffic so much. My sense is that because of other issues, my rep/smart pricing shows me as dirt. Just a feeling that's all.

In the over all scheme of things? Forget the speculation. Wait for Google financial statements, then we can talk. Better yet, the answers over any confusion will most likely be answered simply from shareholder reports. Adsense publishers don't get a lot of assistance from reps and therefore you need to look at official numbers and then make a judgement call if it's something you're doing or if simply it's what Google is doing which has caused your earnings to drop.

MrSavage, I had a dip in earnings and saw that a certain social network had started to flood my site. The shares in this social network site is the same one that had a lot of shares for sale, then were worth less than on the opening day.

I have since blocked it and my earnings have gone back to normal levels.

Unfortunately, I know of members here who have lots of social network traffic who somehow are still earning hand over fist with AdSense. If it were true that having social network traffic negatively impacted AdSense earnings, then how do such sites still earn?

I receive quite a bit of traffic from social network sites, but I never link to them, nor do I need adverts for them... esp as I do not like them due to the amount of DMCA's I have to raise. Same for photo sharing sites, I won't have them on my site.

I have blocked FB adverts, not FB users.

Understood, thanks. The problem I have is the connection to earnings. If it were true, then those sites actively promoting social networks should be taking a hit in AdSense earnings, but they're reporting just the opposite. Right?

I cannot comment on that because I do not know of any webmaster (in my circle) that would want to promote them... mainly because they are off-topic for the sites, and targeting the wrong people.

It's like ebay... do I need to adverise them on my sites? No. They are off-topic for one, and IIRC they do not pay much per click. Plus, if you've never heard of ebay, then where have you been ? If I were looking for something to buy, then I would go to ebay. I do not need an off-topic advert to remind me.

Sites that actively promote social network sites may well be doing okay with adsense earnings. Then again, those adverts may fit into their sites better, or are targeted at the right age group.

Well I guess there's only one way to find out, test. If you're correct, then the implication is that Google is actually being punitive by making dramatic cuts in AdSense earnings if a site also promotes the big rival social network (has a link to their FB page, etc.). That seems a bit far fetched, but then again, stranger things have happened. Where's netmeg?

I don't know if you are misunderstanding in what I am saying.
I don't need FB adsense adverts plastered all over my site. I doubt my visitors will click on them. I cannot stand FB, so I do not care if it would earn me loads of money, I still don't want them on my site.

There may be a number of reasons why my CTR went up after removing them. I only mentioned it as a HU in case MrSavage's site was also plastered in these adverts.

Take those fat adverts. I guess a number of my visitors are fat, but I don't want them all over my site, or any advert for that matter. When I see an advert that starts appearing all over the place, it gets blocked.

I got Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus and StumbleUpon all up in this bitch. Thousands of likes and shares (nobody's using Plus but the buttons are there) People posting pictures and videos to my FB pages. My commenting system allows posting comments to FB. Traffic and earnings are running 3X last year (for May).

There's no set rule if you do this than that will happen, and I don't believe Google is penalizing people who put rival social network buttons on their sites. It's a signal, like any other. If you put the buttons on and nobody uses them, that sends one signal, and if you put them on and everybody uses them, that's a different signal. (And if people flock to your Facebook and Twitter buttons but don't touch the Plus, that's yet another signal, but I don't think G is listening to that one yet)

You have to be where your people will see you. In my case, most of my people are on Facebook. If LW's people aren't on Facebook, it does him no good to be there.

But I really believe that any changes in social connections as regards AdSense earnings are completely coincidental.

(LW slipped in. I don't know what FB AdSense adverts he's talking about; I have never seen an ad for Facebook anywhere BUT Facebook)

Thanks netmeg. I'm certainly taking a beating earnings-wise lately, but figuring out how to stop the madness is still an ongoing effort. Could be Panda, Penguin or a host of other possibilities. Meanwhile, my Facebook and Twitter count continues to rise. If that's where the people are, so be it.

I am not on about FB buttons, or any button to ruddy social media sites.
Yes, I have a lot of links from them, but I am not on about that.

I am seeing facebook adsense adverts. I spotted them in my "Shown ads" then went to my site (cached cleaned) and spotted them myself.

Well, I have over 12k visit a day, and seeing that I have had to raise DMCA's against every social site (except tw*tter) then "LW's people" are on Facebook.

But that doesn't mean I have to have adverts for FB on my site. You may want them, but I do not.

I wish i'd kept my mouth shut now. More problematic than it was worth.
