Is it happening with my website only or anybody else also noticed the same thing?

MrRoy,

On Thursday some of my internal pages were PR4. Yesterday they were PR3. Today they are back at PR4.

Similar some new pages were showing PR0 on Thursday, greyed-out yesterday, and back to PR0 today.

The toolbar PR update rollout may not have yet settled down, so there is a possibility the PR of your pages may change. But if nothing happens within a few days you will probably have to wait until the next toolbar PR update. However it doesn't mean your pages do not have PR - the toolbar PR is just a snapshot from a particular time.

Do as an other posted stated -

Run a search on g for google tools - you will find a site a few places down which offer a PR checker accross multiple google datacenters. Been checking this for almost a week now, and most of my sites do have differnces accross datacenters. Does'nt look like google is in any hurry to do the update.!

So it is effecting everyone (that is everyone whos site has changing PR)

It now seems to be stabilising (thank god, lol).

Looks like we did manage a 7 after all...

Well ... that was 425 posts for something that is no longer of any consequence?!?

BeeDeeDubbleU.

Good to see some irony! However I think it is of major consequence. Not so long ago a toolbar update was just that, but from my experience this update seems to be more complex. PR goes up and down, and at the same time serps are changing, caches get rolled back, and long-deleted pages reappear as supplementals. For one of my search terms the serps show now nonexistant supplementals from 2004 rather than the current (and previously indexed) pages.

Whatever is going on is complex and confusing - and my head hurts.

While my homepage has a PR of 5, the internal pages rank from 3 to 4 and some important content pages have a PR0 (white bar). What's wrong with those pages? What is more weird is that my whole site disappeared from the SERPs yesterday completely and has just come back. Something's going on?

It certainly is of consequence. Without wishing to sound overly dramatic, an update in the algorithm of Google is about as significant as anything in web marketing.

These has been a long haul and it's not over yet.

not being rude or anything, but is PR really that important? does anyone (other than yourselves) care what your PR is or whether it's gone up or down today? does it really mean anything?

the answer to all 3 is no.

some people on webmasterworld make megabucks from the Internet - are they here getting all excited about that little green and white bar?
no, they spend their time building their websites, writing more content, not worrying how green or white that little bar is ........

there's more to life than google PR ........... :)

Start selling links for thousands of dollars based on the PR of a site, and then you'll know the answer.

opportunism - nothing more, nothing less
anyone building websites purely to sell links based on the amount of green on that little bar needs to rethink their business plan ...........

Who's talking about building websites just to sell links?

You asked if it really means anything that PR is down. I said yes, because it can make me thousands of dollars.

How does your response have anything to do with that?

Not to be rude or anything, but Railman, you have no idea what you are talking about. But you are are welcome to your opinion, and the people making megabucks on the Internet thank you for having it.

I know this is OT regarding the insulting banter of the last few posts, but hopefully it won't bother too many people.

PR HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE CONTENT of THE PAGE!

pr has nothing to do with the content of the page!

PR Has Nothing To Do With The Content of The Page!

To those who think their content pages should have higher PR, because of the information they provide...

PLEASE REPEAT:

*PR* has *NOTHING* to do with the *CONTENT* of the *PAGE!*

opportunism?
communist are you?

Not sure how these two words are connected.

As an observer and businessman, I think the point here is that you can have two opinions on the best business models. There is no doubt that there are inefficiencies that can be exploited in the short term to good monetary advantage. An example of this is selling PR (which I personally don't do). If you're relying on this type of business, you also need to be quick on your feet if the market ever changes.

On the other hand you can step back and look at a larger picture and try to play within the boundaries of a larger framework. This tactic might involve the building of a larger website with lots of unique content.

Both strategies have their pros and cons and each has their frustrations. Personally, I'm not sure either of these extremes is better than the other - just different business models.

The irony is some people have so little idea of the conversation that they think buying or selling PR has anything really to do with the value of PR itself. It only comes into the conversation because some people are math-phobes who simply choose to not understand one mildly technical aspect of the marketing of content on the Internet.

There are many open source, shareware sites that I know of, which provide a great service to the community. Many have high PR, quite obviously. Many choose to sell PR, in the guise as text link ads to meet their expenses and there is nothing wrong with it.

opportunism

communist are you?

Guy, you read my mind. Non of my sites have not too much PR yet, but at the moment they have, I will be selling links.
Opportunist am I? Yes, so what!?

Well, I guess I'm lucky enough to be blessed with the ability to do BOTH! Novel, eh?

I'll continue to sell links for thousands of dollars, while making more money through other means, as well!

do i care what pr means?

no

do i care when i open up my page it's pr5 then 30 seconds later it's 4?

Not really, I rank well for my terms.

Am I interested why the above happens? Hell yeah. It might provide valuable information about google. I doubt it. But it might.

On a slightly different note, did anyone notice a glitch in the toolbar PR recently whereby the PR of the page you were on currently on, continued to be displayed on the next page you visited?

Example: I would be on the BBC homepage, then went on to one of my own sites and lo and behold it had a PR9.

Should have taken a screengrab and used it to promote my services - haha ;-)

Over the years I've noticed many people getting angry whenever PR comes under discussion. Presumably because they don't understand the concept and they feel it's out of their control. If you think something is irrelevant why spend any time looking at these posts? I don't look at the daily horoscopes.

If it's any consolation, you don't need to understand it to get good positions. But it's disingenuous to deny its significance.

pagerank may have some significance, but i don't eat, live and breathe pagerank - i just get on with writing content / building websites etc - the kind if things that are well proven to work regardless of the little green and white bar ...........

there's some bloke on here, think he calls himself googleguy and apparently works for google - every now and then he tells people to stop focusing so much on google, look around at the rest of the internet etc - believe it or not, he's right .........

This is what I don't understand...why do you blindly assume anyone who sells links bases their whole business around that? If a hunting store sells gum at the checkout line, is their whole business based around selling gum?

It seems like you are having a lot of difficulty understanding this simple concept.

steveb - if you somehow think that the value of PR is disconnected from the buying and selling of it, please let me in on your new economic model. Last time I checked supply and demand dictated price, which is related to value.

I've noticed in your posts that you seem to think that your the only one that "gets it." Give us a little credit for thinking beyond the obvious. The true irony here is that you don't believe others can think beyond the limits you've set for yourself.
