I just have to say, what the he**? When my site showed-up in www3 and www2 it was being listed with the meta descripition. I was perfectly happy with this, but no, it had to change. My site is, for the moment in www and rather than using that description it is now using text from my site. I would be okay with that, if Google had started at the beginning of my page, but for some reason it began the text listing right after the second hyphen. My listing on google would be just perfect, if only it had begun at the begining. Why did it opt to start after the second hyphen? How can I fix it so that google will not do this during the next update? This description only appears when I search for my site using the name of the site. For some reason the very same page shows up with the right desc. when you use a different search word. Why would the same page show-up with different descriptions for differnet keywords? One desc. right (beginning at the beginning) the other wrong (beginning at the second hyphen).

Because that's how Google works. Google grabs a "snippet" of text that contains the search string.

Why does Google do this? The explanation is simple: Meta descriptions are no longer trustworthy because spammers misuse them, so Google displays relevant text from the page itself.

This no longer seems to be exclusively so. Check out this thread:

Right now mysite is showing the same in www, 2 and 3, for my top keyword phrase, and the description is a combination of the meta description and the first line of content.

This is total Voo-Doo. I feel like I would do better to throw some chicken bones on an old oil drum.

I am #1 in my key word search for www2 and 3. I am NOT indexed at all in www. I have hits coming from Google that when I go to the referring URL, show no sign of me.

I know my customers are not looking for me on 2 and 3. This has been going on since the 25th.

Any thoughts?

I believe there were some serious flaws in this months update as well as last months crawl. So, my guess is before this months update settles, the results from the current crawl will show up in the 1st half of july (call it july update) and that stable version likely to get into AOL?. all these are pure speculations based on my observations of the dance, update SERPs and the current (early) crawl for next month update.

The site I mentioned in this thread [webmasterworld.com] was still bouncing around up until the day this updated started. it is now holding a solid two on all three, but the sites surrounding it are different on each one. The descriptions are different as well.(at the moment it's showing snippets on 1 and meta description on 2 and 3).

If we keep posting in this thread until Google settles down and becomes stable, it will never end. The update cycle is not what it once was. Constant shifting throughout the month is here to stay.

Unfortunately since I'm at a newish domain name, my site isn't on www under my keywords, but its #1 on both www2 and www3. (Although it must pop in from time to time, cause I keep getting a bunch of hits via google!)

For me, for about 8 hours last night, www was at a new state that was not seen on www2 or www3 before. It was like www2 and www3 stopped acting as intermediates that foreshadow www.

Did anyone else see this?

I am still seeing the results on www flip back and forth between old and new. I also just noticed a sizable increase in number of results for a keyword I watch on www. The quantity of results had been converging towards what w2 and w3 showed. Now its 10% higher on www.

Using two machines one of our urls is showing both pagerank 5 and 2 at the same time.

I think it has settled now. My site is now gone on WWW1, as it has been on 2 and 3 since the update started. I was in, although I never submitted to Google. The site isn't near being finished so I don't mind, but I hope it doesn't affect my pr in the future. Good luck everyone.

My new site is also now appearing on www ! I has a PR5 :) But doesn't yet show in the google directory (although category is listed!)

Actually, I was at PR6, the PR7 is the byproduct of this update.

I'm very happy w/ this update. I had a new site go in. I thought it would take 2 google months, but it only took one. Not all the pages were indexed. The site is in google and yahoo. Showing up #1 for main keyword phrase 'yadda yadda widgets'. Showing up #15 out of 2+ million for 'widgets'. Will work on that one. Also showing up #1 for several other phrases I hadn't planned on. O happy day.

Thank you Webmaster World! The hard work and much helpful info paid off. Got same results from 1,2 and 3 now. Think it settled on my stuff. Got #1 on key word search and a PR5. I know that's not a 8 or 9, but I wasn't indexed last month, and my nearest competitor only has a PR5.

Oh yeah, no hidden text or other frowned on tricks. Just most of what you guys taught me here.
