That is funny! I just came here to post something funny too. I just had a link partner send me an email telling me that I was removed from their site because I have a penalty on Goooooogles PR system.
I thought, "wow what a 'system' and did he just send this email to all of his link partners?"
The funniest thing is that I'm on the top of goooooogle and yahoooo for the same keywords that both our sites are about...?
It's only a little glitche people. Party at my house ;-)
But I would not mind the PR vanishing either because I believe it was already being manipulated.
In the past when I was deciding to link to another page, one of the first thing I would look was the page rank, but now, you look more into the real content not the number on the page.
I have seen pages where there is no real value, but it has PR 5 or something like that. I have always asked why? Because they either bought links or had many sites linking to them.
PR, as we all felt, has come to stay. But like good milk gone sour with time, maybe Google decided to replace it with a new system.
I dont think they will scrap the PR system altogether. Afterall, PR has been one of the highlights of Google Technology since long and they may noy like to lose it.
It is always better to improve and repair gadgets than throwing them altogether. Millions of websites swear by the PR hype Google had created, and it is not fair to drop it one fine day. This effects the credibility of Google with all the webmasters.
If they are closing PR system just because (1) No direct revenue and (2) being manipulated; then who knows tomorrow they may just close the search also as even that has been manipulated to an extent.
Afterall they may be feeling that Adwords alone can feed them for next zillion years.
It's been like a day now. What's the longest it's been AWOL before?
More than a day in the past - maybe Brett or someone remembers what was the longest in the last few years. This isn't a particularly abnormal occurrence. The thing will likely be back in a day or so still jerking our strings. I'd rather they just drove a stake through its heart, honestly, at least with the public version.
I'm working off a list of sites that is like 1,000 rows long, go to the first site. Go through my normal routine, the site looks clean. I think to myself, okay what does Google have to say? My eyes go up to the toolbar and...
Gunna have a Margarita instead.
Google is an innovative and forward thinking company, no longer just 2 guys and thier friends making something great. Maybe the Google style is changing too, growing up into corporate leadership. A little less forthcoming, maybe even more secretive, but constantly working to make it better - albeit for more themselves these days. That's to be expected and not at all surprising.
A long weekend is a good time to perform systemwide upgrades. Ask any sysadmin, I'm sure they'll tell you the same thing. From the corporate view your employees are away for 3 days so there will be minimal disruption to regular schedules. The internet doesn't really take holidays - so no time is a good time from that point of view. We can only take what we get and roll with it. Maybe they're suggesting that webmasters take a holiday too.

A few years back it went 4-5 days and when everyone was convinced PageRank was officially dead, it came back. Give it some time, enjoy the sun, and it will be back by Tuesday I believe.
Cheers,
