August 2002 Google Update!

I'm getting different link counts for WebmasterWorld on all three servers....

Note to mods: Please, delete if I'm wrong, I hate it when people cry wolf but I was always told the link counts were the way to tell....

OH MY GOD! PLEASE HELP ME SOMEONE!

My site went from ranking 2nd page to 11th for an important search term! All pages show NO CACHE in the SERPS, and the back links only show incoming external links, no internal links of any kind! What is happening? Have I been penalized!?!??!

*eyes go big* My pr increased and my site jumped to the first page of results!
(for one of the more competitive of my chosen keywords that is)

same here,

I blow most #1 ranking last month (yes in just 1 month).

But after reading a while on this, may i say very exellent forum, i read usefull very things, and found links to good information.
Now after changing html's, i looked in the www2&3 i see i have fully recovered, and probable even better then they were, but that i'll find out when google's finished his math.

So,

From the update I've seen, I've decided to go through my sites and add more keywords. It's kind of ridiculous, but it seems like, to get decent rank in Google, you have to add an abnormal number of keywords to get any kind of rank at all.

I thought I added plenty last month, but apparently (according to my results from this update) I didn't add enough. It's really sad because the user experience dwindles rapidly as one optimizes for Google.

Regarding results, what does it mean when a page has a "Cached" link, but there is no "Similar Pages" link? This has occurred to some of my pages that were crawled for the first time during the last cycle. These pages are also not found in my backward link count.

Keyword domain name or file name declines in importance itself (although still v.important for keywords in incoming links), leaving on page relevance (title/h1/etc) relatively more important.

Oh yes.

In an extremely competitive market, with this new update I managed to be on the first page of results on almost all main keywords. I managed to beat big, great webdesign companies. I am a "one-man-show" with no budget at all.

I have been using clear, clean markup, xhtml to drive the logic and css to drive the design. I have also used some tips found here in this great forum.

I am happy. *actually going crazy, dancing, yodelling...*

I'm not sure what you mean by adding more keywords. Are you talking about increasing keyword density? Or different keywords than you presently have on one page?

I see completly different results on www.

I'm still getting varying results on www2 and ww3 vs www, particularly for a new site which has just been listed.

The explosion of Google related free and commercial site tools has opened a flood gate of url dropping to "tools" sites. Therefore, we request you don't post links to "google tools" (there are dozens if not hundreds of them now as a result of the Google API).

I see the update moved moved to www too.

simple change on my main target single keyword search...three sites have replaced a text title including the keyword with an image in a pretty font...all three have dropped position

no other major changes except we've doubled our inbound links and gained from that

For my keyword "hotel city", no change on www, since yesterday www2 & www3 show the same results, and confirm what I think, domain names play a bigger role than backward links, too bad.

Ok now Im begining to sweat, my page is still not indexed, but I have seen that before when my page first was added in the last min, but it is not a great time.

Main page - PR7 and many, many deeplinks as well (Thankyou DMOZ).

Second site went to PR7 too.

Almost every single page now PR4 or above and backlinks tripled.

Almost all shockwave applets are now first page of results.

SERP's should double traffic this update if not more.

I just taked a look at google directory and I had 0PR listed at the bottom, but why I had PR4 before I hop there will also be more changes.

Yes Brett i think the directory has updated already, my site has gone up from 18th to 12th in my catagory....which is good news! PR still 6 though but maybe gone up a percentage.

On www2 and www3 the SERPS show the google directory link with my site .. indicating that the site is in the directory .. but when I click that link its not yet in the google directory (its there in dmoz of course for a month now)

Is there any thing like directory2.google.com like www2, www3 where it might be showing. Any way I believe the link is there means it will show up in the directory in next few days..

My PR is jumping from a PR1 to a PR4 to a PR1 and back and forth... I was a PR1 last month.. not sure if it picked up my DMOZ and Yahoo and some other links.. this is weird.. why does it keep changing???

Is the directory final now, I mean it only changes ones and then its done, not like www2,www3 that changes all the time. I hope it will change because I just dont get it why I should get a PR0
