Usually a strong indication that the update is complete from your geographical location. The results on www2 and www3 will fluctuate throughout the month due to the daily indexing that occurs. www will remain constant over the next 3 weeks while www2 and www3 will go through constant flux as one member recently described it.
I'll bet you that this thread could continue right into the next update if Brett allows it. This could also end up being the longest ongoing thread at Webmaster World.
Interesting that the home page has gone up to PR5, with zero on internal pages, and all backlinks are showing. PR in directory is still zero.
Hopefully things will be fully back to normal in the next update. although this is an odd kind of halfway point!
The other interesting thing (now that's relative term), is that at the start of the update I was showing on all three w's with a fresh page from 8/20 but now the home page - only page that can be found in the index by search terms (pg 6 or beyond only) - is from 8/6 when the googlebot came around for a deep crawl.
I was wondering if the only reason my site showed up at the beginning of the update was because the penalty filters were temporarilly removed and, now, they are back to haunt the likes of us again. It was so comforting to see my site for a few days and now so frustrating to be gone - again!
Used to have for the last few months:
Level 1 - index page: PR4
Level 2 pages: PR3
Level 3 pages: PR2
Now (well from Saturday 24th):
Level 1: PR4 (and 5 backward links)
Level 2 pages: no PR (it says - page not ranked by Google - which I assume is different than PR0????) These pages all used to be ranked
Level 3 pages: PR3 (But! These pages don't seem to be indexed - i.e. I can only find my index page when performing a Google search)
Some additional pages were created this month and quiet a few amended - but nothing which would have impacted my Google ranking IMHO.
Any suggestions on what might have happended?
It may be that only your index page is indexed for some reason. The PR3 on 3rd level could be explained by the fact that Google assigns PR3 to pages it knows nothing about.
And when you say no PR for level 2, do you mean grey toolbar, or white? Grey would indicate the pages aren't in the index, white would indicate that they are, but have a PR of zero. Which would not necessarily mean a penalty.
Currently my index page is PR5 and my internal pages are PR0. Go figure.
The reason I ask is that last month after the www's had went stable i found that by using more keywords or a stranger query there was a slight difference in the number of results found. I checked the first 5 serps in each www and they where the same so I can only imagine the difference was on the very low end of the serps. but popular searches and single keyword searches where constaint in both serps and results found.
Many thxs for the reply.
The PR bar for the level1 pages is the same color as the bar background - i.e. light grey. When I hover the mouse over it it says 'current page not ranked by Google'.
As this may indicate that they are not in the index any longer (strange in itself because they ALL used to be) I checked my log files.
Googlebot didn't visit me since June 29. It has just returned on August 26 and visited a couple pages.
Could this be the problem?
And why would the bot stay away this long?
I am also back, again, with a fresh date of 8/27, current page cached, same search terms that I used when the upate first started, same serp's returned. Still PR2, no back links and no related so I won't be surprised if I disappear again.
I should quit working all night so I can get up early and have a good day more often ;)
