Will the Google update be back soon?

I don't see why you webmasters are so worried about the lack of updates recently.
Google is not going to sit back and watch their index fall 4, 8 or 12 months behind. They have built their reputation on providing up-to-date and accurate search results.

I'm certain that they are working on something even better at the moment and the results of such work will come out shortly.
Google is by far the most popular search engine in the world and I'm sure they're not going to lie down and die.

Sit tight, and be prepared for a whole new Google coming soon...

not realy concerned when the update will be, more worried about the my sites dropping in and out of the indexes for no apparent reason. Makes optimisation difficult when the goal posts move but when they change the game completely it is nigh on impossible to make any sense of it

Rivers of ink have flowed regarding the recent changes within Google. Some say the old girl is broken others say she is improving, whatever your viewpoint, Google has changed, changed utterly. Many have skirted round the issue as to why, but as is often the case, the truth is stranger than fiction. And the signs my friends are unmistakeable - Google is pregnant!
It is the same old story we have heard a thousand times. The pressures of work got to her, people just kept on asking more and more of her, "everybody just wants more and more information from me, nobody asks how I feel" she wails. She goes for a drink with her friends, swearing itīll only be the one, but, once she gets those beer googles (sic) on .... well google is notorious for being "easy". Panic ensued at the googleplex when the monthly "dance" (as they euphemistically term it) did not arrive. And then a few weeks ago when I logged on one morning to look for something, Google was temporarily "indisposed" - two words:morning sickness. Those close to her deny anything is going on - for fear of merciless persecution by the tabloid press. Many conjecture it was an accident, others speculate that she felt her googilogical clock was ticking. Whatever the truth, the omniscient one, Google herself, is remaining tightlipped, ("keeping mum" as people say in Britain). So what is the prognosis? Nobody knows the exact gestation period of a google (as this is the first one bred in captivity), but the common consensus is that it will be greater than one month but less than nine. Obviously those who know and love google are in for something of a bumpy ride. Mood swings are par for the course, but at least at the end of the arduous process we can rest assured that the power of Google should have doubled (notwithstanding twins triplets etc. in which case her power will multiply commensurately).
So please spare a thought for Google as she is in a fragile condition.

They have already fallen 4 months behind in terms of the backlink data, which is from February. Maybe they will just keep adding junky fresh pages to the index instead of updating soon.

It would help to do an accurate crawl, if for no other reason, just to get rid of the old pages that don't work anymore and have no links pointing to them for months. While freshbot adds pages, it does not take them away and this badly affects searches.

I found some differents results betwen some keywords (very specific keywords) betwen www and www2

One of the keywords were I find the difference was:

There have been changes for the last few days

Some of my sites today moved up on www!

and others still on www2 and 3 - i think there may be a slight change going on.

I am starting to get a good feeling about this Goolge update. I have the feeling that a thorough job as has never been done is taking place. The evaluating of PR and yes, individual sites and clusters of sites is taking place. Perhaps the long awaited balance of reality is near.

I'm hopeful and cautiously optimistic. My personal sites' Google rankings have eroded steadily over the past year. I've been busy with other projects and haven't taken the time to build enough links to keep pace with competitors. I suspect many competitors are using "artificial linking" and hope Dominic may devalue these. Perhaps my sites will recover some of their lost glory, I'm sure not countin' on it though! ;)

What update is that? When did it start. I expected to see all sorts of fluctuations since Dominic started but I haven't seen any fluctuation. No new pages, nothing, nada. Just a bad index.

My backlinks were halved and so were many other sites. There are addresses from pages I threw out four years ago appearing in the index. How is this an improvement? I've seen content that is no longer valid appear in cached pages. How is that an improvement? All of my competitors (we are on speaking terms) pretty much have the same to say so this is not sour grapes. There is a lot of crap coming up in the serps. It just seems like the thing is broken.

My wife who is a sophisticated surfer but who really cares very little about anything technical was searching for something yesterday on Google when she exclaimed, "What the .... is this." I didn't skip a beat and said, "you're searching for something on Google, right?" Before she could say yes, I said "go to all the web dot com." She'd did and without looking up said "thanks."

To those speculating that we are seeing another SE flame out, you may be right. But, somehow, I hope we aren't.

This index sucks!

I'm now seeing my positions slowly drop for terms I have held for a long time.

It's as if the only sites that are doing well are older sites that had a lot of back links and good anchor text.

I can't wait for MSN and Yahoo to do their thing.

The only good feelings I get are when I see someone saying screw Google [webmasterworld.com] - anything you can build, I can circumvent better.

Any major change at Google is no small undertaking, we are talking massive risk of something going really badly wrong if they do a proper screw up somewhere, and once things roll a relatively minor problem can become very major.

If they are as suggested by many threads and more than hints from GG, going to switch to a continuous rolling update and faster PR calculation, then this is a serious serious change.

So...

results currently suck generally in sometimes seriously screwy ways = fact

lot of spammy stuff about = fact

annoying and even upsetting/frustrating/souldestroying/financially traumatic for some = fact

better if Google could just practise on one server if fiddling = fact

Google 'the end' = unlikely

Google screwed up unintentionally = possible

Google likely to be clearing the way for many months of reasonably glitch free results at the cutting edge of search technology = likely though may still have screwed up unintentioanlly in the process

Google likely in the future to be sold and run then by idiots who we should fear on the basis of their ignorant incompetance = probably so start praying!

I must agree with zeus about ATW. After Dominic I was wondering if I was gonna be able to make it since I lost all my G traffic for my 2nd busiest time of year, Fathers day.

Been so busy filling orders until Dominic hit that I hadn't had much time to do SEO but when I started checking the other engines realized I had some #1 and #2 spots on ATW. A glimmer of hope I thought to myself in those dark moments, "but does anyone actually use ATW?"

Evidently they do because since Dominic I have seen my sales climb back almost to pre-Dominic levels, Whew! I attribute this to a little PPC, and ATW.

With that said I can't imagine Google staying like this forever. I have faith they will fix things and get me back on top where I rightfully belong:)

I just checked my rankings and went from #67 to #11(previosly #1) on one important single word and from nowhere to #14 on a 2-word phrase(previosly #1)!

I am confident for now that this is going to come out really good for most webmasters. I am watching closely though for any resignations at G. If any key resignations take place then we will know that this isn't a hiccup but is a dark shadow of .com bubble proportions.

No resignations yet that I know of so the world looks good.

Does someone monitor the forums, laugh at the speculation and wonder over the fears and confusion.

Even deeper, does this same sinister character visit the websites of those who cuss the great G and 'tweak' a little here and there, remove them, drop them, raise those that praise etc?

The page that user found via altavista could not have been found via google as it is now.

It must be very difficult for you to read material that doesn't do Google any favours, indeed if more 'users' as opposed to 'SEO' related people read the same posts that abound the forums - it could cost Google dearly.

I'm still bemused as to why Google doesn't listen to the 'word on the streets' and turn back the clock, revert to just a few short weeks ago when it had an effecient up to date facility.

Sure, you cannot please everyone ... but at least try.

Alltheweb seems to be winning over the users now ... IMHO.

You're a brave man for facing up to us and deserve the respect you have earned.
