Should have better rephrased it - I meant I blocked the url's of a few generic and irrelevant advertisers. Definitely an improvement on yesterday, but I'm still having these periods of several hours, when the stats just don't seem to move.
I'm in the SF Bay Area and it's not quite 4am here. Most of my traffic is USA, so it's not unusual that AdSense reports won't show much activity for a few more hours. It used to be I'd get clicks recorded all day and night, but then something changed. Now from midnight until well into the next day I might see only a handful of clicks reported and that's it until later that night (if I'm lucky that is...)
Yesterday ended as the second highest earnings day all month. No reason why that I can see. Won't be enough to save the month from being a disaster, but nice to see it moving in the right direction again. Hope it lasts.
We have seen the new ads they started displaying over the weekend, show images on the ads, little flashing images and also single link units that open up. Also noticed we now can opt out on the user based ads and show more content relevant based ads (in my opinion help) the adsense program work bet.
Adsense is now faced with ad blindness, and some browsers offering to turn off ads.
Like i mentioned above google adsense has opened up some options for publishers, such as turning off interest based ads. I prefer the IB ads off because if my site is about pretty kitties, and the ads are showing hello kitty ads, not liky my visitors will click them.
Yes in theory having the whole bowl bid up your ctr is nice, but if only a little bit of those ads get clicked.
Past 3 days have been very high, double our normal earnings. Today looks like it'll be the highest earning day in 2 years.
I'm always reserved when it comes to things like this, especially towards the end of the month. Sometimes we see a slump the first week of a month, and earnings may tank on Aug 1.
Also, it may or may not be related to outside issues in our case. I made layout changes 4 days ago. As I usually do, I'll wait a couple of weeks to see if this is a real trend or a momentary spike before I either sing joyfully from the roof tops or cry into a beer.
