Well, my February was all over the place, very similar to The Himalayas in profile!

Trends, we love 'em, this month so far v 2011:

CTR 47.9%
EPC 92.3%
Earnings 34.9%

This isn't daily beer money any more.

I wonder what public sector workers would say if they'd had their earnings slashed to 35% of the previous year?

Hopefully they would think of where the money to pay their salaries comes from. But lately, the trend seems to be to overlook that and demand the cash anyway.

I'm seeing a dramatic improvemen in my CTR as well. Earnings are up about 30% YOY throughout what's my site's slow time. I can't wait to see what happens as we head into the warmer months.

Another horrible AdSense day here yesterday. Earnings down to less than 35%.

So far this month my earnings are almost exactly the same as in the same period for 2011. However, page impressions are 35% up on the same period last year. With Adsense I need to run faster and faster just to keep in the same position.

Compare that to my Vibrant earnings which are vastly up compared to last year.

So, the money is being spent by advertisers but somehow Adsense is not performing as it should. Either they are taking a larger cut of my earnings (not everyone's maybe, but mine) or Adsense is in a downward spiral generally. I don't know which.

I would say that judging from all of G's ad adjustments that the ads are suffering from your 'downward spiral' theory. I believe big G is suffering from a sort of long term network ad blindness. This seems to be the trend over years over several sites.

I'm giving up checking, my earnings are so pathetic that they're insignificant to me.

I have zero confidence or trust in any Google product now.

Did anybody happen to catch the end of the Rachel Maddow Show last night? She was talking about getting different results when you google "Rick Santorum" and said she had her staff call someone at the 'plex, who told her they make "500 changes to our algorithms each year." I knew it was a lot but I didn't think it would be anywhere near that many.

I can't help but wonder. If incomes are down is it because:

1. There is a general reduction in the volume of AdSense advertising.

2. It's more or less the same but the number of publishers has exploded so the slices of the pie are thinner.

Years ago, when things down turned for some, there were always people who said: "Well mines up".

Can't recollect too many "Well mines up" comments in these threads of late but then I might not have been paying attention again.

Well, mine is up. :) So far today, for example, I am having my best day of the last 12 months and could possibly make it the best day.

Yesterday earnings closed at 60%. So far, the best day this month. Pretty depressing, but better than the sub 30% days. At least it moved up for a change!

Just when I didnt think it could get worse than last month it did. This is the worst week in years as far as ctr and overall earnings. I have a feeling this month will be a bust.

I like to keep a positive attitude so im gonna say April will be better.

I'd settle for just being told that there is a lag. Also they should keep the numbers in sync, i.e. don't report impressions for which clicks haven't been.

I don't mind the lag. It's a big system. And nobody else updates anywhere near as quickly.

Just to let you know Friday was my worst day of the month for earnings with my EPC at 79%.

Earnings March 1-9 2012 v 2011 at 35.5%

CTR 50.56%, that says nearly everything to me.

It seems whatever we do to improve views, CTR and earnings, Google finds a way to cancel it out.

This is why I basically have stopped testing. I turn one knob and G turns 5 others. Useless at best.

That is because there IS a CAP on what your sites will be allowed earn, in all the years of working with G every time I acquire more traffic via advertising or organic traffic or link traffic, the the CPC is reduced to counter that new traffic so as to not give me much of this gain in $. I know it's not quality of traffic cause some of it is from G themselves! Some say it is simple supply and demand, but since G is the supplier of the number of ads, price of ads and we know they can serve up ads as they desire to sites (within reason) then they actually control the demand side too!

I am in total agreement with your sense of this aspect of using Adsense, it has proven out over time for me as well.
