The same down-and-on problem here in Turkey.
But j3 goes on and off. No steady results. At least three different sets:
216.239.63.104 (I think with additional tweaks)
64.233.161.104 (still J2)
64.233.179.104 (J3)
Google is not broken, on the whole. There may be specific problems with specific issues, but the index is in fine shape. In fact, it's pretty much the index the Google engineers planned to have, after extensive testing and development. That is the fact. You can boohoo all you want and sour-grapes until the end of time but this is the index Google wants to have right now, so come to terms with it and try to rank well in this index.
As yet it doesn't seem that google have addressed the simplest forms of spam (ie. keyword stuffing & hidden text). The index seems to lean towards the safe big brands for the most competitive keyphrases. They don't seem to acting immediately on reports of abuse and they are giving less regard to the older sites than they used to.
All in all I believe that January is when the biggest changes will occur ... a real assault on the spammers and a total cleanup of the index. You can bet that there's a massive list of reported sites to review and take action on and IMHO I think it will happen in the retail lull of mid-January.
All we can do is clean up and brace down
A great day to witness the FLUX. Everything is dancing on those lovely DCs :-)
And as you might have correctly guessed we are approaching the end of The Father of All Looooooong Updates, Jagger (nickname SAGA).
Those of you who are doing well..Congrats!
And the other friends who are suffering.. your new chance mightbe on the next update around primo Feb 2006.
And from me a last Jagger song to Google for this time:
Oh Google! You Are Simply The Best... Better Than All The Rest :-)
My hats off to you Google for once! I never thought I'd say that honestly! 9 out of 10 results are relevant for the searches I consistenly watch when pre-jagger it was 3 out of 10.

Agreed. I've reported one site ten times at least (which is number on in my sector for hundreds of vital kw's which has hundreds of these pages), but it's still there. :(
It's still on MSN too and 8 out of 10 of the top page results are this company site. Not sure how they think they can get away with it forever, but they must be doing fantastic business so maybe they don't care!
But here is the rub - if I spend 70% of my time creating useful content on non money pages for which I receive links and praise, I will need the money pages to pay for this! So google looks at my site and still ranks it high for non money pages but tanks it on the money pages... unfortunately, I can't afford to work for nothing! I feel the algo has ignored a sites popularity for the money pages.... the end result will be more niche, with users needing to look at several specialist websites rather than one. Every sector will be dominated by the same niche suppliers - IMO the web just got more boring.
IMO it isn't good enough to return pages that just have more repeated keyphrases slotted in here and there (sometimes hidden behind tiny 2px <div> tags). The internet is about content, bargains and accessibility and these spam sites are depreciating all of these.
If you pack keywords to get higher listings ... Google's gonna get ya!
Not to say that your computer or money pages are spammy but that things are churning around in those type topics.
Just a wild theory as to why some sites have plunged and others haven't. I know a lot of people are thinking their recip links are the cause but I think we have pretty well established they aren't a problem across the board.
DH peeling potatoes while I take a break from turkey day prep. Hmm, is the eternal update saga really a break?
These sites are doing just fine.
So discounting all reciprocal linking is just plain stupid.
As with every update since I started watching them numerous years ago, people post on here like what they say is gospel when in fact it is far from it. The ONLY person who ever posts on this board who knows any facts about Google is GoogleGuy. Everybody else's post is just observations and their opinions based on areas they are watching and as with all updates, certain areas seem to be hit harder than others.
The update is over, quit watching the DC's and move on.
Now go eat some turkey!
Personally I am seeing the most movement of the update so far over the last few days.
Dont know which way it will go for my site (well cant go down :P (much)) - so just watching.
However, we must be in Post Jagger 1,2,3 mode by now.
Phew thanks for declaring it over...oh, but hang on - you said:

Ahhh well the saga continues...!
Enjoy your turkey! I'm so hungry I might order myself one of those outdoor horses I found on google..
