Is the team at Google on Holiday until the New Year? Still waiting for the dance.

Hey, quotations - at least you got one :(

Approx. 2 years ago Google e-mailed to say "we're sending you a sweatshirt". I'd sent some compliments their way and it was a kind of 'thank you'.

Zilch. Nadda. Nothing :(

The minty fresh results are gone, GoogleGuy is posting. He even made a comment about penalties being lifted. I think they are just waiting for the web to slow down which will start to happen sometime tomorrow evening. I think Jan 31, 9 pm utc. Is the shirt pre washed. i would hate for it to shrink ;)

Shirt is in top-notch condition. Previously owned. 100% cotton. Size L (chest measurement is 21.5" flat across). If the "previously owned" part is absolutely repulsive to the winner, we can talk about procuring a new one instead.

I assume it was previously owned by Larry or Serge... or perhaps Gbody herself?

I have come back home to the UK for a rest after a nutty year which almost burned me out. I actually had a dream just before( nightmare, we got a penalty) about the Google dance and woke up and just rushed down to dial up and it still has not started. This is not healthy and very soon I am going to need pyschological help:)

I guess tonight is the night though!

It's 2:15 in the morning on the West Coast of the USA (same time zone as Google) on the last day of Year 2002 and nothing.

Shall I stay up until the update? Or go crash? If it happens while I'm asleep, I miss the opportunity to phone Marcia with the update news (Wake up! It's happening!)

Oh to heck with it. I have to work later on this day. Gonna do one last link:yahoo.com check then go to bed. I know I am going to regret going to bed. I know I am going to miss the update. C'mon, GG, hit the Red Button!

No...I will stay up for another half hour.... This is nuts.

Why do several posters here feel fairly confident it is going to be today, New Year's Eve?

Its a conspiracy to stop webmasters having a social life.

My site was crawled by Googlebot yesterday (30 Dec) between about 15:00 to 16:30 GMT (IP address was 64.68.82.xx). It's only a small site, but it pulled every file. I'm confused - I thought the crawl happened after the update, or is this not the correct IP address for the main crawl?

It's still 632K at the moment :(

Strange...

My whole site was freshcrawled Dec 30 as well.

Some sites at the same server was even crawled with
crawlXX.googlebot.com - that is the regular crawler NOT then fresh crawler.

Does this means that the dance has failed somehow? I have never seen this behaviour before!

Searching on keywords that will always find my site, I note that the results in www2 and www3 are different from those in www. Also a cached page has features created after the last update.

Is this the start?

No update yet... no T-shirt for me.
Most of my site was crawled yesterday too by the 64.68 bot.

Is the december update going to be the big non-event? One of my websites was deepcrawled yesterday too. 632K looks rock solid. Small waverings in numbers of returned pages for some search terms.

I had recently updated site for someone and was under the impression that I had made the changes in time. I almost had the fear that I had done a cack job. Good to know it has not happened. :)

Zapatista,

I've been following your posts. The update is certainly not just starting to get on your nerves! You need sleep - serious amounts of sleep. Put away the Pall Malls and the Chinese food. Get out a bottle of whiskey or whatever poison you like. Keep drinking until you are stuporous and then go to sleep. Before you start the process, set your alarm clock so you have time to get up and shower in time to go out for New Years. Then when you wake up tomorrow, the update will have started.

I've been busy uploading content for the next deep crawl which will probably start right after the dance begins tonight at Midnight, GMT.

Last one was on nov. 28th, I think, so it's "only" 33 days, but it feels like more. And there are some pages of mine, which I'm _very_ interested in testing in a _new_ Google index.

Why do people still think that it is going to be today, it could happen any time into January!

Taxpod, you are probably right. It's like when I went fishing. The only time I ever caught a fish was when my mind was a million miles away from fishing.

Still, I am taking matters into my own hands. I am putting a Mission Impossible team together and I am going to break into Googleplex. Then, when my theme song is playing in the background, crawl through the air conditioning ducts until I get to the heavily guarded update room. Removing the vent I will rappell straight down using my guide wires - hit the red button and go back out the way I came.

yup thats rite..

1. what should never happen:
google services not running properly;
so in a sensitive phase like an update human
presence at googleplex is absolutely necessary

2. what actually happens right now:
google people are having some nice days off and prepare partying (never as few searchers as now - so who cares for an timely update..)

3. what happens in the next moment
i leave that d*med pc having persuaded myself that dance will need some preparations and so will not start before January 4th or 5th..

:)
