Hi Claus, I meant it to be a bit provocative and generalizing... Tried to start an own thread, but they didn't let me :-(

Forgive me if this is a silly question, but I'm not sure what www2, www3 and -in mean? I know they are all Google (I've checked them out), but how are they different from www (besides different search results)?

Apparently www2 and www3 are pointed to one of the 10 datacentres at any time (currently www-in). Google likes to tease and points them at the one which is likely to cause the most indigestion for webmasters.

Each of the 10 datacentres (www-xx) has it's own results, and when you make a query, www will be pointed at one of them. Which one depends on where www.google.akadns.net sends you. That's why www tends to have rotating results. They don't really change that much. It's just that you have been directed to a different datacentre since the results seemed to change.
