For my first name (2 name), I enclose them with " " and got #36. :)

But for my name here in WW, I am #1.

cool.

O.K., I'm nowhere to be found for my first name, but....

I may be the only WebmasterWorld member who has been able to convince Google that the two separate words that make up my nick are a misspelling. :)

I dropped from #1 to #2 for my first name on the last update. But the #1 site doesn't deserve to be there!

And just checked my full name (unusual first name, very common surname) 5 out of first 10 listings.

My first name is the commonest first name in the world, so I obviously do not show up in the first few hundred results.

But my last name is very uncommon, in fact close to unique (very few families), and none of my relatives has the same first name. So for my full name I totally dominate the SERPs.

First name obvious from my nic, last name equally obvious from my profile site URL. Note spelling of first name!

WG's post got me looking around. If you type my name transposing the two vowels, Google asks if you mean Laisha.

I'm famous! :)

I'm #16 for my first name -- I would probably be higher if I had put my name in the title tag, but I wasn't egotistical enough, I guess.

I had some competition, but not a lot. #1 is a name on a gravestone, though. I hate getting bumped by geneology sites. Argh!

I'm #3 for one of my online tags. 1 and 2 are archived Usenet posts of mine. <whine>How can a lousy Usenet archive daughter page (with jillions of pages, probably) have better PageRank than me?</whine> (Okay, I know I have pretty lousy PR for that particular site, but still. Seems like I should have at least beat them on relevance.)

I can't find myself for "berli" . . . it's probably in there somewhere, but I kind of abandoned the site a long time ago, so I don't really care.

I'm #1 from my nick name "dhempe" (my blog is named thus), even above the college from whose name I derived my name!

:-)

and for my first name "Harish" (very popular name in South Asia), I'm #36. It throws up a friend's page who has my photo in it with just my name "Harish".

I guess I'm pretty high, amn't I? :-)

who won the contest? ;-)

Almost no point looking for me under my first name... I'm competing with Robert Burns, Heinlein, Frost, Kennedy, and 's Rules of Order, among others.

For my full name I'm #3,4,5,6, and 8, and if I add the underscore between my first and last names, my WebmasterWorld profile comes up #1. So yes, Google does index underscores.

Berli - No chance here in Oz - unless you are an undergarment called Berlei!

Robert_Charlton - Yes Google does index underscores - no issue - just that Robert_Charlton isn't Robert-Charlton.

But Robert-Charlton- as results - are closer to Robert Charlton results....
Try it....

No fair. My first name has 11 million pages and my full name is the same as a very famous English footballer.

How'd you guess! :)

It's always funny to call over to England. People always pick up the phone with a "Yeah, right!" attitude like they think someone is playing a joke on them.

This little exercise has really convinced me that words in the title make a BIG difference. My first and last name comes out first of 1,560,000 results and it's just a bit of amateur poetry that happens to be in a subdirectory of a site of mine that does really well PR and serps wise. My name is in the title simply because it's my poetry.

Actually it's a mystery to me why this page does so well on other poetry searches. It has only two links from outside the site (showing as backlinks in Google) and those pages are only a PR4 and PR5) The rest is about 54 interior links (some are PR6) which shows interior linking must make a big difference.

My first name is Bob and that returns 19,700,000. I rank #496. Can any of you Bob's out there beat that? :)

This is pointless, I have a unique name,
so I'm no.1, I have been and always will.

Naturally, a common name, the no1 will be the ones
with the most links pointing to it I presume.

I suggest putting a unique nickname or whatever
that makes sense to get no.1

Do people really get tonnes of traffic
from people just searching who have the same name as them?

Well thats no fair, I am competing against Ronald McDonald and L. Ron Hubbard.

No. That's why it's called "ego surfing," because you're just doing it for your own amusement. ;) It's supposed to be pointless... kinda like watching tv, only it's a bit more interactive.

OK, I thought I gave up too soon before, so I tried again.

There are OTHER people showing up for my full name, but not me.

I am apparently very well-hidden from Google.

I'm also well-hidden from waiters when I need another margarita, and from those automatic flush toilets.

3,820,000 results - no show for 1st name only (only got to 250 results)
1st for my name with an old site - how embarrasing!

I searched for my english first name Peter and got 33 million hits, I stopped the searching after 500.
My full english name was ranked 58.
For my full chinese name I got 316 hits and I wasn't there.

I searched out davester28, my nick and was surprised to find a webmasterworld posting from just a couple of days ago (titled link development). This confuses me, as I thought the last crawl was mid may.
