Wow!
I can't believe the thread for the dance that never was still grows!

Let's recap:
Normal dance:
Five days into it and it is almost over with index moving across the other 7 main data centers.

So far, 7 days into this PRE-DANCE:
The SJ data has not started to migrate to the other 7 main data centers. FI not included.

I have not seen sj results show up on www in over 3 days now.

www2 and www3 all are pointed to the IP of sj.
I've seen it mentioned that we have been privy to a part of the dance we normally don't see and I would be inclined to agree with that.

I don't think we will see the real dance start for a couple days at least. It's not a real dance anyway until all the data is applied, so I think we are all going to see a big shift from what the SJ server is showing and what will actually be in the index.

I find it funny that GoogleGuy has disappeared. I think they rolled out the new algo to get our opinions. Most searchers don't bother to fill out a satisfaction report. They just go somewhere else. In that respect, Google has a great asset in this community because they sure got a lot of feedback about what was on the SJ server. I think when the dance really starts in earnest, we'll see GoogleGuy show up again.

Anyway, back to work adding content for the next deep crawl
:)

Not for the keywords I'm watching. Hopefully those results never make it to www.

They changed but they have changed back now.

Looks like the results are being refined a bit and then they will be slapped on www in all their glory.

For what it's worth...-fi and -sj both index many of my pages that were blocked by a robots.txt file a couple of months ago, and which are not in the active index.

I doubt that Google is going to ignore robots.txt, so perhaps this is a dynamic experiment looking for changes over time.

I'm not convinced the update will look like -fi or -sj.

If fi goes live Google has taken the largest step back I have yet seen.

Not really the results on FI as far as I have seen are better than the www server ATM.

When they changed it the other day a ton of spam sites vanished and a load of rankings of mine and my clients changed for the better.

Seems to me like they have finally cracked it. Either that or they have read my mind and the robot works the same as my SEO. (one can wish)

Fortunately, I'm not seeing the new spam-infested results over at WWW. Can only hope they never make it over in their current form..

and it's sj in the lead,,, but wait a minute is that -es (?)now that i see coming from the back of the pack?,,, or wait, now here comes -fi closing the gap on both, but wait www seems to be blowing them all away still..

and -ex goes limp on bend 2... will have to be destroyed.

www2, and www3 are now in the middle of the pack even-steven with -sj.... but wait those are just sponsor logos on the -sj jockey uniform..... sorry folks....

and here we are on the final laps, and it's, it's, it's...

folks we have a winner... it's SJ! SJ wins the Google Triple Crown.

Spam infested may be a bit strong of a phrase but I am still seeing one site having two top ten places by virtue of having the following setup:

[x.com...]
[x.com...]

Which seems to me a bit poor in terms of search result returns.

Well,

Missing links, sites that were banned last month now back in with same stuff that got them banned in the first place, I just don't know what to think about this so called update!

Maybe it should be called a "Backdate" or "DoOver"

My ranking is one place higher than last month on www and the positions of my competitors has also changed. but on
-fi/www2/www3 etc my results are 15 places lower than last month. what's the reason for that?

Something is going on www. My rankings have changed a little bit, lost a place here won a place there. Nothing significant.

Hm, funny, now they have all changed back to where they were before.

curious...

and my sites got fresh tags. 9 May 2003

Sorry, I was searching one time on .com and one time on .de
But anyhow it is curious that rankings are different on .com and .de . They never used to.

This is the longest, most confusing update yet. Hey, why are we posting paypal URLs (j/k).

"BackDate"- I like that :)

Seriously though, using 2 month old backlink data just doesn't cut the mustard when that is such an integral part of their algo.

I work in the Web software world where the latest and greatest comes out every month. I really don't care to see these old results at all.

Seems to me like they are getting a little to "cute" with their ideas over at the plex and may be orgetting what has made their results the most popular for so long.

i thought it was already decided that this is a test of their new technology not an update.

Down here in Cape Town we still have www vs. www2, www3, -sj and -fi. The last four have been showing my page as #1 for the last week, whereas my page doesn't even feature on www.

You can guess whom I'm voting for, but what confuses me is that the PR on my page is still grey.

Not sure if anyone has already metioned this, but it looks like Brett has not updated his "Google Update History" chart to reflect these recent changes.

[webmasterworld.com...]

I take it this means that Brett does not consider this the real update yet? (good news for me)

Also, has anyone heard what Brett himself believes is going on here? Does he think that eventually the old backlinks will be added back in to all our sites?

Well, my results have changed in -sj since last week when all this sillyness was first noticed. Still showing my page as of at least a month ago in ther cache on -sj, whereas on www the site has been freshed repeatedly, and is now only a few days behind reality.

Dunno what is going on. All too wacky.

.

Even the WW servers have joined the wackyness now...
